So I have been a seller on and off her since June 2001, Over the years I have sent items recorded delivery that either never turn up , or arrive with no notification of delivery. Now someone wants to charge a buyer a fee for safe delivery, when they would have been charged that in the P&P cost. Frankly it sounds more like a scam than customer service and Ebay are also trying to force us to use their shipping option, So much for free enterprise, sound like trying to get the monopoly on delivery as well. As for hanging on the sellers cash til 2 days after delivery, really so post office goes on strike and you don't get paid, Think I may start looking to leave. So much for eBay's loyalty to us .

I don't use simple delivery. I was replying to a comment suggesting it might be forced through Evri in the future

The way they've set things up it certainly could be and outside of not selling there's nothing private sellers could do to stop it.
If they really wanted to allow the sellers choice of courier, why did they leave the breakout clause for themselves?
& going by their announced prices, they seem to be more expensive than buying directly through Royal Mail anyway. I don't/never used them myself, as seller, but I'd assume Evri are cheaper than Royal Mail for similar parcel sizing/weight parameters. So even if eBay have the same normal price as everyone else their maximum profit margins would probably be from using Evri.
The fact they are charging more suggests profit is their goal. So read between the lines and things point a certain way.

The the last few days I have sold 2 items. The first one I hand delivered and the second I was just about to send. However, I’ve just noticed the eBay are holding onto my money until the items have been delivered and I have to wait a further 2 WORKING DAYS.
I have been with eBay for over 21 years and after tonight, I will no longer be selling with them.
They hold onto my money which previously they paid straight away which means they don’t trust me and they sit on everyone’s money and steal the interest from all of us.
EBAY ARE ABSOLUTE SCUM and I WILL NO LONGER BE SELLING WITH THEM.
To all my loyal buyers I’m very sorry but that’s it for me now.
I wish you all well and hopefully will see you all on VINTED and FACEBOOK.

I am finding there is very little interest in buying now.
Things need to change.

Click on collection only, then click postage only, should bring up all the postage methods then you can chose and set the price too
or do as another poster suggested
create a template and set it to custom postage and use that to create listings so you don’t have to opt out of simple delivery every time when listing (that’s for the browser)

"Spoke to EBay today who say some people cannot access the full list no matter which route they take."
I wonder if the"glitch" is mandatory Simple Delivery being phased in?

It's starting to look that way.... getting more and more difficult to avoid, for more and more sellers. Until it becomes impossible to swerve. ☹️

I have just been caught out by this scam several times in the past Month.
I am in the habit of snipe bidding for expensive items to buy them as cheaply as possible. Although several of my recent bids were the highest bid and should have won the item I was completely unaware that ebay were adding a substantial protection fee to my bids , (£12.00+) which made my highest bids fail. Yesterday I received a higest bid win notification for an item that I had bid on ,only to find later that my highest bid failed to win due to ebay adding the £12 fee after bidding had ended !
If it isn't ebay's intention to stop snipe bidding it certainly is effective.
So if I decide to snipe bid at the last secnd I now have to estimate or 'guess' what the protection fee will be and then add that fee amount to my bid ...

That is not how it works, bids include the buyer protection fee and I don't see why using a sniping site would change that.
You just bid what you are prepared to pay.

thank you for your reply which is not particularly helpful !?.
Unfortunately I was not aware of this new additional 'Protection Fee' which has recently been added by ebay. I rarely use snipe bidding ..only on higher priced items .
There is nothing on the bidding page that tells buyers that a 4% fee will be deducted from their bid for this fee.
I have since made some enquiries and have found an extensive thread dealing with this issue.
Ebay market this fee as being included in your bid which implies that it is not an extra charge on top of your bid which of course is not actually true . The fee is actually added to your bid .....after AFTER the sale ends . This means that private buyers need to add a 4% fee charge to their maximum bid BEFORE they bid because ebay do not mention this additional charge anywhere on the bidding page.
Now that I know I can adjust my bid accordingly but I recently missed 2x crucial sales because I was not aware of this hidden protection fee being added after the bidding ends and the sale is concluded

Just today sorting out office that resembles a collectors / hoarders room (only room in house I’m allowed to store things in) and this time last year I would be thinking;
When I get the bi-weekly 70% off final value fees (eBay selling commission) I will list a dozen or so items.
Now I just can’t be bothered.
The dumb 4% + 75p and being at the mercy of the postal system to scan item as delivered.
Last year I sold almost all my coin collection plus some gold coins with sales total coming to approx £15k.
Year prior I sold my autograph collection plus some gold coins with sales coming to approx £10k.
I now have more ogold coins to sell (currently being stored in a vault) ) and sadly I will not be using eBay due to the new rules on payments.
Last year I sold a sovereign coin, that was sent next day prior to 1pm.
It arrived by 11am next day with the buyer, shows on Royal Mail web page as scanned as delivered , buyer left feedback same day (positive), yet eBay only showed as delivered some 9 days later.
luckily it was via old system and I had been paid 12 hours after auction finished and money in my bank account.
Under new system I would have to wait 11 days (9 days plus 48 hours).
it’s a shame that the powers to be have decided to wreck what was a good selling site.
I have already started selling via Facebook coin groups and gold coins direct to a bullion dealer.
I got slightly less for gold coins than via eBay probably, but I got paid within 24 hours.
Posted prior to 4pm.
They received next day at 11:45am.
Tested coins and paid me via bank xfer at 3pm.

Numerous people, including me, have posted on numerous threads explaining how the BPF works with auctions and what the information provided by ebay actually means/says.
There is no insight, there is just how it works.

Fair points, however, it doesn't work as eBay are not clear themselves, and panicking because they shot themselves in the foot. They are too proud and stupid to sort out their own self-created mess, which impinges on people who have swopped to private seller or, who already were. If as a business owner you create a mess then you are responsible for sorting it out. Ebay are doing nothing except justifying, which is mug's game.
