This "simple delivery" BS just makes everything more complicated
30-06-2025 9:35 PM
When I tested out simple delivery, it didnt offer me any QR code, I hit to buy, it immediately bought, charged me and told me to print with no other options. I then had to cancel that postage order, to then order myself, luckily it wasn't forcing simple delivery on me, though then had to be in negative money for a couple of weeks because had to wait 2 weeks for postage refund from Ebay too!
It's shocking bad, not to mention dubious legality forcing my home address on a label when I dont want it on there

Personally I prefer having my address there, makes it easy to have a return to sender come back.
But if you prefer privacy, that should be fine too. People need choices, not a Ziss Iss How You Vill Post system.

As I don't own a mobile phone the QR code is useless to me unless I carry my laptop to the PO and they scan that.

Totally respect your choice to not have a phone, but in fairness to eBay I don't think it unreasonable of them to not cater for the tiny percentage of people who don't. I notice banks are increasing the pressure to move to their apps so they can stop having an expensive online banking system.

So I now have to buy/maintain a mobile (monthly fee/payg costs) for something I don't want. eBay are making me pay £2.70 to post a vinyl record that RM only charge me £1.55, this eats into the small profit I retain which has to now go to the expense of a mobile. Most of my sales are around the £4 mark, doesn't leave me much does it?
This selling thing was supposed to be an enjoyable hobby for me after I retired, not looking to make a fortune but it has to at least seem to be worth it. eBay are sucking all fhe joy out of it.
It's another step to rid the platform of minor sellers clogging up their system.

What nonsense. It doesn't cost a bank more to provide online banking than to provide an app.
And personally, while I find online banking from the desktop very convenient, using Linux for additional security, there's no way I'm putting a banking app on a phone, too much risk for my taste. I'm not paranoid, I've been in IT for many years and understand risk tradeoffs. A banking app wouldn't give me benefits that would be worth it.

Neither am I John, and I agree with every word you said there!
Phone banking.....? no flippin' chance.

'unless I carry my laptop to the PO and they scan that.'

I did that! (needed to do a return and I've got no printer as well as no smart-phone...)
And it wasn't too much of an ag... 😊 just held up the lappy with the QR code on it and the lady behind the counter scanned it, printed the label, stuck it on the box and put it in the sack. Printed me a receipt and off I toddled. 👍

It is nonsense I agree. I will not have any financial apps on my phone. But it seems obvious that banks are pushing us more and more to them.

Like you I will not use it either, reason being I am a private seller selling small cheap items I simply post using RM in an envelope with a first class, or overseas stamp. What is wrong with that?
On the other hand, feel sorry for the sellers who depend on eBay for their income, thank goodness for me its only a hobby so will just walk away.
But will miss it.

I don't think they're doing that with any expectation that it's cheaper for them. They just want to engage more with their customers. And show some of the younger ones that they're with-it kool happening doods... or whatever today's slang is. As you can see, nobody sane would hire me to run their brand promotion team!
It's a perennial problem for banks. Financial literacy isn't sufficiently taught in schools, and most young people would rather watch a MrBeast video than think about budgeting and saving.
Ebay is smart to provide a somewhat capable app for its mobile users. Looking at the competition, they've not all got the hang of that.

Yes, I would imagine this is why my new debit card is all jazzed up/dumbed down, with the horse facing forwards... 🙄
Do young people appreciate these corny attempts to 'engage' with them? I'm not so sure, although I haven't been young for a long time... 😭

NO..... definitely NO!
I can remember being young (just...) and old fogies (i.e. anyone over 35) trying to be anything other than old and fogy'ish was NOT appreciated......... it was wildly embarrassing and just made you want to run away.😱
They do not wish to be 'engaged with' by old people. We are so uncool they don't want to have anything in common with us....

🤣
if the free to sell ads are directed towards younger people they can forget it
young people have the attention span of a gnat in the main, they’re too busy checking what’s happening on their phones every 2 seconds to sit and wade through filling in ridiculous specifics
they go to Facebook and vinted where things are easy and quick
and I can just imagine what they’d say to SD with all its shenanigans

Indeed! Some businesses really shouldn't try to be 'trendy'. People like the reassurance of a brand that has been around for donkey's years, always looking much the same, and instantly recognisable. Too much modernising can end up alienating the old customers, and failing dismally to attract the new.
eBay try a bit too hard to appear 'with-it' on the home page these days, what with the false mateyness of using first names... 'Mary's OOTD under £25'. And phrases like:- 'Hey, trend-setter...' and 'Rock the villa in luxury'... eh?!! 😂🧀
Wandering off-topic, but then, the date for mandatory Simple Delivery wandered a fair bit from April 15th, didn't it?
