EBay surreptitiously increasing Postage in a Listing

First off, like any sensible Seller I have opted out of the con that is Simple Delivery; I set my OWN postage rates, take care of all my postage requirements myself, and don’t leave it to some poor, badly programmed, not-fit-for-purpose AI whose sole purpose seems to be to make more money for eBay…

However, today I noticed that one of my listings, for which I had entered £2.65 for my postage, was displaying as £3.13! I changed it to one of my other postage rates (£2.25 or £1.99) but it would ALWAYS display at a higher amount. 
Customer Service were their usual clueless self and said that VAT had been added despite it never having been done so in the last 5 years, nor as far as I can see, to any of my other current listings. (And if that was the case, why isn’t VAT added to the item price too?)

WHY this is happening is one question but this poses another question…. Should the item sell, would eBay charge the Buyer the higher amount, but only credit me with the lower (correct) amount, and pocket the difference with their customary greed and deceit? 

Or is it just an innocent case of a glitch and symptomatic of the increasingly rapid decline of eBay?

If  it wasn't Simple Delivery, you will get the price shown (item +postage costs) less Buyer Protection Fee, (and postage label cost if you buy that through eBay).

Are you seeing, when you go to list, the two boxes one saying Simple Delivery and one saying Custom Postage near the bottom of the listing page.

Suddenly today my wife who uses custom postage options, as everything she sells can go via a second class stamp, is only seeing the Simple Delivery box yet above it it shows a weight of 1kg for some reason and above that is the postage policy option box to pick a postage policy. But it's forcing it to a 1kg simple delivery parcel with no option to change from that for £2.75.

She is hoping this is just a glitch.

She is probably now in the *mandatory* Simple Delivery system. ☹️

Ebay's first 'everybody will be in by' date was the 15th of April. That didn't happen.

The next 'everybody will be in by' date' is the 28th; so Monday.... we'll have to wait and see.

Ebay have maintained that *all* private sellers will be squashed into it whether they like it or not.

But it's a real 'square peg into a round hole' system for a lot of sellers. And unfortunately many of those 'square pegs' will stop selling..
