Well finally after changing the format of their selling platform it seems every couple of weeks you have come up with the ultimate level of stupidity with this latest total ridiculous set of changes. Nobody is going to wait what could be weeks to be paid for a item they have sold who ever dreamt up this idea much be so far from reality as needing to push every part time seller off the site. I knew when they came up with the idea of free selling it wouldn’t be long before the idiots that run eBay came up with totally and ridiculous idea to claw back the money they have lost the whole senior management team at EBay must seat round a table all wearing clown costumes saying what is the most stupid idea we can come with to really get rid of half of our customers and the biggest clown wins with this idea and all the other yes people follow. Well I had started selling a few bits again but never again and will not be using EBay again to sell anything it has become a total joke of a company I hope your poor and flawed decisions finally catch up with this once great place to buy and sell has become a total joke.

I trust the RM Tracked 24 service less than I trust ebay. Being forced into that, or worse, Tracked 48 - is terrifying.

I like tracked 48 all collected from me by RM never had a problem over the last year

Same here. Our cheerful postie is prompt and helpful in all weathers.

Looks like they obviously only want business sellers now adhering to all sorts of red tape and paying more fees.
All the fun has drained out of it for private sellers and the stupid extra charges are putting off buyers the whole process is becoming pointless unless you sell in demand high value goods.
Hopefully other platforms take the private trade and also it signals a new car boot era for bargain hunters where people can deal in CASH and annoy the govt and banks !

Hi
I totally agree with your comments I’m retired have been a hoarder and sell items to help me out when I reported that I didn’t agree with the changes and found the charges to be extreme and 300 items were not enough it was implied I was a business which I’m not and often re-list items over and over and that there were other sites which I never use feels unfair
I hope eBay looks into what was a great place to buy and sell

I don't think it is appreciated how much one person can collect...and wish to get rid of! And ebay was great...

Not if you use Tracked 24/48. £150 cover too.

I am very very close to throwing in the towel, I try to keep my prices low and under certain levels and eBay add their so called buyers guarantee bringing it over the level, now we are told that from tomorrow we have to post how they want it posted. A small but heavy glass ornament that Royal Mail tracking charge £8.19 for I,m going to have to quote 0ver £10 it’s not on and after tomorrow I will never list again. Shambles, comes to mind. Did they have a completion to see who could come up the the best ideas to loose sellers.

I wonder just how much this policy change by ebay will end up contributing to landfill across the UK over time?
Probably quite a lot in the end. This is certainly not a green initiative is it!
14-04-2025 10:44 PM
It's already started in Birmingham UK.

I guess that is actually Vinted's fault as they are the ones who introduced these policies first. Plus the real issue is that we all have too much stuff so blaming Ebay for contributing to landfill is, IMHO, a bit silly.

I agree!
Anybody who sends anything decent enough to sell on Ebay to landfill should be having a word with themselves.
There are charity shops (they sell unsaleable clothes for rags) who can accept most things.
Freecycle and similar sites connect you with people who would love your unwanted stuff.
Local initiatives - one of my local community centres accepts donations of shoes and clorhes and hands them out to homeless and hard up people.
Some food banks are also interested in good secondhand clothes, including kids' clothing and school uniforms.
Even if you end up taking your things to the recycling centre (aka 'the tip') a lot of the things you dump will be recycled. Some recycling centres even have onsite shops.
There is no need to put anything decent in the bin.

Those people who used Ebay when they allowed the Royal Mail to collect might not agree with you if they have mobility or transport issues.
There is no doubt more stuff will be chucked in the bin and therefore go to landfill.

I don't drive and can't do car boot sales, but I can put on freecycle or Facebook free stuff groups for people to pick up. Could probably sell large lots via FB. But yes I am rural so not as large a "customer" base as eBay.
My alternative, yes, is to put in a bin bag for collection - but only allowed 1 bag a week, so it would take some time.

Our cheerful postie is prompt and helpful in all weathers.
Several years ago a study showed that peoples satisfaction with Royal Mail was little to do with speed and efficiency of service, but more to do with how well you liked your postie.
15-04-2025 9:44 AM
You can still have them collect, you just do it through the RM website. The eBay option was iffy anyway, I found for next day collection they had cut off times of around 7-8pm for next day pickup, whereas on the RM site they allowed you to book for next day usually up until 12am.

No matter how much we are pushed and shoved towards 'drop-boxes', automated systems and AI running the show (in alll things; not just ebay!) most of us still prefer people ...

I agree with you entirely...last time I moved home and had just one week to ditch things I'd forgotten I even owned....I offered them all, literally hundreds of items, on my local Freecycle and people literally piled in and cleared them all. Some people said things like 'are you sure you dont want something for this' but I always refused and it felt literally fantastic to be paying forward, often to people at least as badly off as myself or even more so. It was hugely effective and everyone was happy. I could have, with more time, offered some stuff for sale but honestly, just typing about what happened nearly 10 years ago, brings back the fantastic feeling of actually being useful....now though with these daft rules on ebay I would do the same again if I needed to move.
15-04-2025 10:10 AM
Some more alternatives to the bin and landfill then:
Ask a charity shop to collect - small scale local charity shops are especially good at this.
If you shop using a taxi once a week or fortnight (I know many people with no transport and mobility issues who do this) there may well be a clothing bank in the supermarket car park.
At least once a fortnight I get a bag through the door for some charity or another asking for unwanted items. They collect from the kerbside or outside your door.
Plastic, paper, card and metal items can go in your own recycling bin and most councils allow you to fill the bin and leave out additional items.
The general refuse bin should be a last resort.

I believe to many big businesses, ebay included, have lost sight of what makes value for their company as apposed to money. Value can be created through intangible things like how well you like your postie, which can't be defined on a profit/loss sheet, yet could determine whether you continue to use a service or not.
