Has anyone else noticed lack of sales since the buyer protection update 4th february 2025. I used to sell quite a lot and virtually sold nothing since 4th Feb. Can anyone else relate to this and what can we do?

Out of interest, how were people's impressions and views yesterday?
Sunday is usually the best day of the week for traffic, anyway, but yesterday I had the best impressions and views for quite a while, both organic and promoted.
Highest promoted impressions since January 2nd
Highest promoted clicks since December 9th 2024
Highest organic impressions since May 5th 2024
Highest organic clicks since December 7th 2024
I try not to read too much into impressions and views, because I've had days with terrible traffic and good sales, and days with amazing traffic and no sales. Sunday is a good example, because it's not unusual for me to have no sales despite traffic always being at the high point of the week.
But anywhoo, I just thought it was interesting, and wondered if anyone else saw a boost in traffic yesterday?

Last January was my worst apart from the first year I started. Feb was quiet, too. Then April and May were all time highs in succession.
This January was pretty good but Feb has been slow like last year.
I found ever since the Cassini system was introduced several years ago that things got a lot more up and down, at least for me. The end result seems to be fairly consistent, but sales seem to sometimes come in fits and bursts with quiet times now and then. I feel like ever since then, the quality of listings has become way less relevant, too. I feel like you used to have a definite advantage with a nice details listing and good photos but now it doesn't seem to matter one jot!

From a buyer’s view, whilst the odd number prices don’t bother me, I do think it will bother some - wondering why that is, when there’s no real explanation to be easily seen - the psychological effect (as has been mentioned before).
Although different factors affect different periods/years, it should, at the moment, be a buyer’s market, but I wouldn’t be surprised if an awful lot of people weren’t tightening their belts (or beginning to) and being extra, extra careful what and where they spend - worrying over keeping their job or worrying about increasing prices and wage rises being curtailed.
Food basics - meat, eggs, butter, cereals - are all more expensive and higher energy and water bills on their way - council tax bills also to rise in a couple of months' time - and add in local charges, eg. ULEZ etc.
Maybe, as has happened before, possibly an increasing number are now only buying what they need rather than what they want?
Then add on top of that the all-at-one-time changes here in eBay UK - using us as guinea pigs - possibly they’ve let a genie out of the bottle who has turned bad?
And if other sites/shops, which people sell on/from, are doing well or are ticking over, buyers have decided to buy there (on price/need) because there’s a finite amount of money to spread around for a growing number of people?

Thank you again for your reply 🙂
I was wondering / asking because I haven't heard anyone one say across these forums that anywhere else was affected.
Also I wanted to know if it was allowed? I know eBay doesn't allow you to organise deals on eBay then bypass purchasing on site, but does that count for cross listing? But if I understand you correctly it's ok to do, just not easy.
I have seen a few sellers on eBay sell something elsewhere then when it's purchased on eBay too they've been given bad feedback due to cancelling the eBay order. But I guess that's why it's not easy as one would have to keep check of their stock and remove and item quickly if the item sells elsewhere.
(In reply to your other message): That must be awful when others rely on you and sales to be paid.

Same here. The BPF is killing my sales.
24-02-2025 1:43 PM
Business sellers don't have to pay the BPF when buying from either other businesses or private sellers.

"Business sellers don't have to pay the BPF when buying from either other businesses or private sellers."
Is that true? Sounds very much like discrimination against buyers who aren't also Ebay business sellers if it is.

Everything I buy for my business account from private sellers has had the fee....
24-02-2025 2:25 PM
Thanks for clarifying. It'd be crazy indeed (like dual pricing is not crazee enough) if you could get cheaper prices on Ebay just by opening a new business account.
And it is supposedly private sellers that buyers need 'protecting' from. They shouldn't need protecting from themselves.
But, as witnessed, we live in crazy times.

Not long after these conditions were announced, I stupidly took the time to contact eBay customer services to warn them how this would effect there business and how private sellers would find it hard to sell items in the future. I also warned them how this would dramatically reduce eBays site footfall.
In my mind eBay has been declining year on year since 2015, so could this be spelling the end for eBay.........
I see a gap in the Market opening up.

It's a bit of a con. I've been selling records and dvds for say £1.50 but now the buyers see the price as £2.20. I'm still not sure what exactly the fee gets you. I'm a buyer too (not to resell just to buy clothes etc) and I really can't see what I'm getting for the fee.

Considering the Money Back Guarantee is still advertised on every listing I checked (as if yesterday), in a real sense, nothing.
At the start they had some hoopla about a 24 hour dedicated CS team, but it appears they backtracked on that in days and AI covers some of the shift. That was the only real difference.

I see eBay tells sellers how much the buyers are paying for BPF and what it is for when writing the description but eBay doesn't have the guts to post the information on the item description page so the buyers can see it. Perhaps we should inform buyers of the BPF ourselves in the item description.

Yes, Ebay decided a long time ago this should be complete surprise to their buyers. For some reason. I did warn my item watchers before the fees came in and even had a few sales as a result (then had to check with them I hadn't mis-sold when the fees were delayed).
Not sure a warning would help much now they're here as it'll only remind buyers that the price they're seeing has been inflated, especially on low value items. If you've done what you can price-wise, sadly they'll just have to suck it up.

To me there is a simple problem. EBay on one hand taken away fees from private buyers, then balanced it out with loading buyers with fees for seller protection. There is no winner, all it does is increase the sale price for the buyer and or reduce the margin for the seller. Glad I invested in a mountain of stock!!

You are right there is a simple problem, and simple person with the business skills of knat, Jamie Iannone eBays CEO.

How have people got on this today?
Any positive news?
I had great traffic yesterday and a few sales. Today (24th) has been the best day for sales all month.
Has anyone else seen signs of improvement?
