Ebay have trashed what used to be a great platform. I have used it for around 25 years, first in business and then when I retired 8 years ago in a private capacity mostly buying but also selling surplus items from my various collections (lower end stuff).
I used to be able to list something in a couple of minutes now I could be at it for half an hour and still not get it how I want it. Ebay must have a team of school kids (can`t be intelligent grown-ups) with nothing else to do but think up stupider & stupider ideas to foist on sellers in order to squeeze more money out.
Yet they don`t do it by honest means. Buyer Protection is nothing of the sort and fools no-one. It`s a commission on buyers which they actually agreed at the start so why the subterfuge.
Their latest scam (for tht`s what it is) Simple Delivery is anything but simple. There is no way I am going to charge a buyer £2.70+ postage for something which costs a pound and easily fits into the large letter category (£1.55). To do so would in my eyes be dishonest, and very few buyers would go for it anyway. Yet I have not yet found a way to disable or avoid SD.
If ebay are so desperate to increase profits why aren`t they upfront about it and charge a commission on buyers and/or sellers, at least then everyone would know where they stood. Without having to resort to their present dubious methods they could allow sellers to make their own postal arrangements and generally simplify things all round. This I suggest would allow them to rake in the profits and halt the company`s decline.

Im predominately a ‘stick in the box’ seller, it’s also why I don’t use vinted as from my understanding, they require a scan on drop off. Ebay really should allow ALL low value letterbox sized items to be custom postage or SD as optional. It shouldn’t be done by category but by weight, size and cost.

Hi @dmacbrewp. The anwer to your question is that you decide. I tried sports programs and do get custom delivery though. Make sure you put the cost in before checking postage options. Generally it is the categories ending with "other" that are eligible for Custom. No one serches by category just make sure your title is good.

You called me simple, that was the insult.
Constructive suggestion was to learn to how list correctly, it takes 5 minutes and you are covered and do not leave yourself open to scammers.
You can have the last word, i just dont enjoy insults being thrown around when there is no need for such playground actions.

Nobody knows why eBay only allow certain categories. A lot of my items are Large Letter and clothing which are not in custom postage category. But I've just had to add the cost of the extra postage to the item price.
I also use 'Seller Pays' so buyer doesn't know the price unless they are also a seller.
We either have to make it work using the rules and regs or sell elsewhere. It will never be what it used to be in the good ol' days when I used to sell 3 - 4 items a day. Last month (Sept) I sold 4 items. I may try Vin*ted some time.

but if you post yourself you do not need to send tracked and therefore the postage is cheaper. I very rarely ever sent anything tracked (only using the Certificate of Posting tracking number which you do not pay for) and never had a parcel go missing. Small priced items do not need tracking.

Go for it, is my advice! Although i did not want to use the label system, i did want to sell and e bid was rubbish so i tried V and it is much simpler to list and i have sold 20 items since mid august which is okay for me. There are still some things i prefer about e bay but unless they change (unlikely i know) i will stick to what is working well for me now.
