Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

This sold as a PROMOTED LISTING. I can't understand how eBay Corp. isn't shamed to be taking money for such a useless, worthless service.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

As an aside - I was amused to see it was made in China! Then as now.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

Two questions.

Why would you promote it when it was possibly the only one on Ebay?

Why would you start an auction at .99p?

Why would you do signed for delivery on a £1.20 item looks like it avoided SD?

I start auctions low for 2 reasons, I let the market indicate value and to draw footfall into my shop.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

The market failed in this example and if you want to start an auction at .99p with a promotion and prepared to sell it for £1.20, you are basically paying double for advertising. Each to their own.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

I see you included a stamp to demonstrate it could be for holding stamps. As it was more likely a pill box perhaps you should have included a paracetamol....😊

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

Or cyanide, the way ebay is now.

Still, on the bright side, the OP is a business seller, so not suffering SD.  But suffering some eye watering fees even before promotion, on this ridiculously non-level playing field.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

I personally don’t use promotions for auctions and no longer do 99p starts on my private ID (Im just clearing the items now in order to stop selling).

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

I think it was just as likely to be a stamp box. Stamp dispensers had many designs and are collectable in their own right. I don't deal in stamps but that stamp is quite a good one with some high prices.

Too right it failed but eBay scrape what they can from the sale.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

I hadn't thought of that. In any case, the listing of drug paraphernalia is banned on eBay. I think stamps or pills are the likeliest use. Many people posted cards every day as it was their only means of remote communication apart from telegraphy and telephony so having stamps to hand was necessary.

EBay claims that starting at .99p and paying for promotion together benefits sellers. It is Tommy rot.

Yes, China has been manufacturing for export to Europe for, what, six hundred years.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

Yeah, think your right and its probably to small for an opium or snuff box. Could have made a cool story though, picked up by an English soldier during the second opium wars and brought back

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

Whether eBay indicates value is debatable. It indicates value on eBay but many items fetch much more in other marketplaces where richer consumers shop. However, entry into those markets as a seller is difficult and expensive.

Re: Crack open the champagne! (sarcasm)

Postage is another sore point. EBay manufactures confusion by marking items as "dispatched" before they have even been packed.
