Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Someone found the dates yesterday and posted them. Just thought it made sense to make it easier to find.

It's in the Help Section under Opt out

Simple Delivery will be the only listing option as of 15th April and they will start adjusting current listings from the 7th April.

So at least we know where the Iceberg is now.

Thumbs down and reason why 😄

Absolute mess. Prices wrong no 5kg for parcel if you think i'm using some money grabbing bot thing you must be joking!
I will never cheat lie and deceive my buyers. An honest 21 years is not going to be ruined with low star ratings and neg feedbacks. I would rather jump off a cliff. Hopefully people will leave in droves.
What happened to the sale is between the buyer and seller and we can only make recommendations?
Even now you haven't sorted it. More weeks to allow letter post?
And what amazing exciting thing comes after that i mean you are going to be playing games with us all year aren't you?
Whoever is doing all this needs a basic education, experimenting with bots to replace human wages will never work if done on the cheap. Ask Nat West bank for help theirs works fine
All listings removed until, if ever, this is sorted to me satisfaction

If Ebay wanted to alienate longterm sellers...they found a great way to do it virtually overnight!

Ebay has made a lot of money from us over the years at 10% plus PayPal fees, only recently dropping price to make themselves sound generous, (but actually forcing costs back onto sellers in an underhand way as we have to absorb protection fee and now have to pack free and send with lo cost couriers who will definitely lose or damage items ...that is a 100% certainty)

As I understand it the item must either be collected by your postie or scanned at a Post Office Counter in order to obtain an acceptance scan. If you do not obtain an acceptance scan you are unlikely to be protected if the buyer opens an INR case or an INAD case for "Arrived damaged".

Give me ambiguity or give me something else.

The little independent Post Offices are the losers here as they are paid on a comission basis ,so all items that people take there with simple delivery ,the PO staff don't get any money from them ,our little independent PO is thinking of closing because the bit of money they were making has been taken from them ,life if hard enough as it is now ,but this simple delivery is going to kill services communities rely on like Post Offices because of sheer greed

I only log in to ebay now to see how badly a company can be run.

They're obviously not going to die overnight, but they're Tesla's only real competition in the worst brand management awards.

This has really not been thought through many of my items are fairly light and only cost £2.10 to post but now with this nonsense that is  not an option so buyers are being forced to pay more in postage than they need  to !!!! This plus the enforced guarantee payment has completely killed it for me and many others.

When my listings are hi-jacked (again) for ebay to change the postage to simple delivery I will be checking to see how much ebay have set for the postage cost as my listings are 'free postage' so I believe ebay will take the money for the postage label from my selling proceeds.

@wintersdawn1

Why do you want to let them do that?

Or after you see what they do are you just going to cancel the listings?

Just found that. Your idea may not be good for you from what I've read so far.

Wish I could code a rival site lol

Look at ebid.  Excellent site, functions well, modest fees, been around for 20+ years.  But it lacks the massive promotion that a rival site needs.  You can only sell well on such a site if you have a large inventory and can build your reputation, for example with postcards, stamps, or craft items/supplies.  On ebay-as-was, people just came here and bought your items, because everyone and his dog has heard of ebay.

That's what you'd be up against.  But with enough investment, it can be done, clearly.  Vinted is doing well, but as far as I can see, they're equally controlling about postage, I don't think I can get the RM collect-from-home that I need.  And it looks like ebay has simply copied V's ideas.

@cherrylunas

You're not alone in your optimism, see for example: https://www.reddit.com/r/ebayuk/comments/1joukfx/lets_design_a_better_platform_together/

As I say above, this is neglecting the huge investment in promotion that would be necessary.  Unless you happen to be independently wealthy, or have venture capitalists as drinking buddies, I suggest you forget it and concentrate on what exists.  I'd love it to happen, but I fear it's not realistic.

But is it realistic to think that an unknown site can exist by mainly selling stamps, postcards and comics for 20+ years without the massive outlay on advertising you envisage?  It seems to me that's what ebid has done and moreover as a result of a previous mass exodus of ebay sellers p*ss*d off by an earlier attempt by ebay to impose some sort of postage control on them.

Did ebay have massive advertising from day one?  Or did that only come when Wall St. took over a site that was doing quite nicely without them?

The small success I've had there in recent years has been without any self-promotion, just by being careful about key-words and google shopping

Especially in niche areas buyers will go looking for what they want to buy.  If they can't find it on ebay they'll look elsewhere.  No it won't be as big as ebay, but if you're not looking to sell in large volumes, sales can be made steadily, which is good for me as a part-time private seller who doesn't want to sell at anything near business levels.

@andha-21 So far I've somewhat adapted to the BPF and delayed payments so was going to see what state my listings will be in from the 7th April onwards when they change them to simple delivery.

I'm only selling a few unwanted things on ebay so doesn't matter whether I stay on ebay or not.  Most of my items are large letter and I send them royal mail tracked 48 which is/was £2.70 direct from the rm website and it seems, as I've deselected evri, the ebay price for rm tracked 48 should be £2.73 so not too much different from what I was able to get direct from rm.  Yes, if I don't like the look of things after ebay put my listings onto simple delivery, I will cancel them.

Thanks for the link, will look.

Watch out for size and weight of your items because ebay are sending out the wrong postage labels for people to put on their parcels and this info came from our local PO they said simple delivery has been a nightmare because ebay are only going by weight and not true size so they have had to reject several parcels because the price was wrong .

Greedy eBay! Haven’t a clue about how to make postage as cheap as possible! Even with a guaranteed £20 cover!
I think they are trying to get rid of private sellers 😭
