Coming soon to eBay Mandatory Simple Delivery

Someone found the dates yesterday and posted them. Just thought it made sense to make it easier to find.

It's in the Help Section under Opt out 

Simple Delivery will be the only listing option as of 15th April and they will start adjusting current listings from the 7th April.

So at least we know where the Iceberg is now.

I tried to list a pair of shorts today….
Postage on Simple Delivery is £3.74!!! 😡😡
It would only cost me £2.10! Fully covered with Royal Mail…. Who in their right mind will buy anything like this now!!???

Yeah it's just ridiculous and Ebay have a big problem on their hands now as their immense greed has caused them to fully commit to a poorly conceived idea that will kill their sales volumes.

They can ignore us but won't be able to ignore their own financial impact.

It's one of those situations where everyone is disadvantaged (apart perhaps from Evri if they can charge ebay a penalty for not achieving any committed spend or volumes).

My guess is that as ebay has now upped the postage costs for private sellers (+the BPF) they think that buyers will just buy from un-affected business sellers.  By comparison they will look cheaper than private sellers now the dice are even further loaded in their favour.

They will look cheaper even with all the shop, sponsorship and FVF's that ebay charges them and unless buyers compare prices on and off ebay many may just buy what seems cheapest.  At least in the short-term this might fulfil ebay's goal of increasing business sellers sales simply by pricing private sellers out of the market, even more than they are doing to businesses with their extortionate fees.

Lets hope the buying public catches-on quickly, particularly in Collectables and buyers start looking beyond ebay and etsy and realise that what they're looking for is now almost guaranteed to be available elsewhere and cheaper.

This may not be the right place to ask but: 1) If you offer free shipping are you still bound to using ebays postal service (simple Delivery) or can you use your own, and 2) if you are selling a media format that can be "copied" (i.e. CD's/Dvd'/cassette's) that are hard to find (unless you pay for youtube music) are you still obliged to offer returns unless item is faulty/damaged or INAD. I used to sell out of print and hard to find/rare/collectors/fan club CD's and described all faults and play tested all items. TIA.

I don't think ebay are that clever. Most of them probably believed their own double speak that they were making things 20% cheaper by pushing volume to Evri while also pocketing something for themselves like a magic money tree without realising that the reason sellers don't use Evri is because they either cannot or are unwilling to use them because it's either impossible, inconvenient or a generally poorer service.

It may even be a genuine surprise to them that we are not celebrating ebay's wonderful SD system. Maybe they expected us to be rejoicing at them opening our eyes to how Evri can boost our sales, etc when what happened is we started pulling/suspending our listings, reporting them to authorities and started to buy and sell at other places.

I believe you are for Buy It Now sales because this is Distance Selling consumer protection - nothing to do with eBay or their protection racket. However. auction listing are exempt from this regulation.

For free shipping they will give you an SD label and deduct their price from your sale proceeds. There has been some discussion that this might be more expensive than if the buyer paid for the SD label as the 4% buyers tax might have been applied to the cost of the free shipping within the item price.

I'm a bit unclear on what happens if if you sell a letter (again it's still unclear if this covers large letters) under 100g and under £10 with free shipping as that does not require tracking but suspect they will still give you a cheaper SD label and charge you for it.

SD doesn't change the buyer's right to return - the same rules apply. As a private seller (assuming you are not operating a business with a private account) you do not have to accept change of mind returns unless you want to which is an option when listing (defaulting to accepting all returns) however in practice the buyer might INAD you anyway in which case you would have to pay return postage where they would have to pay if you offered a change of mind option so in my experience it's usually best to offer all return options.

My daughter also tried to list a Summer dress- Normally costs £3.39 for Royal Mail 48 Tracked-it looks as if to buy the same postage through Simple delivery is not far short of £5-without the buyer fees added etc.So absolutely right-who is going to pay possibly more in fees and postage than you may have bought the dress for!

She works away from Evri collection points and Post Offices,and our parcels have to be collected as I am at home-and I also have mobility problems.(so Evri is a non-starter-apart from the fact I have no trust in them,from bad experiences)

Apparently you can arrange collection for the Simple Delivery (Royal Mail) on the RM website-has anyone done this ? (as I have serious doubts that you can)

My daughter recently bought a dress and it was not as described- the seller provided a 48 tracked label for Royal Mail, to return ,and we tried to book a collection.

It could not be booked as the RM website did not recognise the tracking number. On closer inspection the tracking number had # in front of it (presumably an Ebay thing)-so I had to get a taxi to a Post Office and pay £10 in fares in order to return a £20 dress. Not happy!

I agree that SD is terrible idea, and for many reasons. 

However you can indeed arrange RM home collections by using the method you mention - basically entering the Tracking No. at 'book a collection' at the RM site.

I actually have one booked for tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes.

At this point I'm not sure that the postie will take it though, as ebay's 'Stupid Delivery'  grossly underestimated the size and weight, which means my prepaid label is only for a large letter whereas I am sending a small box.

Ebay says that the delivery services (RM & Evri) will take in anyway, but seller's are already reporting cases of this not happening, at least when taking prepaid labelled items to the PO. 

Perhaps the postie will take it but there maybe problems down the line (for me or the buyer...) when the RM system recognises the postage as being underpaid.

Interesting please let us know how that goes. In the early days of the Internet people would just argue and troll each other on Usenet but now a few decades later Ebay might be delivering arguments to your very own doorstep with your own trusty postie. Still if it gets a few people their bonuses and helps with shareholder profits then it's probably worth it eh?

you still have to buy a label from ebay to cover  for loss or damage . I think that if you send an item your own way you will struggle to get ebay to agree that the item has been delivered even if your tracking says it has ,so they may make you wait for some time until they pay you .

But you can cancel the order  - its not like you have the funds, just explain to the buyer why its cancelled. Thank goodness for sell  for free gimmicks.

You can send it 'by your own choice' but you wont get anything for the postage from the buyer

Unless you've offered free postage, your buyer is charged for the delivery cost at checkout and the amount is then paid to eBay for the label. If you decide not to use the prepaid label, you'll need to purchase your own label instead at your own cost.

They are supposed to take it.  Any surcharges/penalties will just be charged directly to eBay's Royal Mail business account.

I'm not actually angry about this just 'motivated' and don't see the point abusing ebay staff that's not nice. For me the most effective path is to stop buying and selling on their platform, discuss the issues openly in this forum and inform the relevant authorities in the hope they will investigate.
