Chancellor goes after tax dodgers

HMRC getting more powers to go after tax dodgers, 5.5BN lost in 2022-23 with 81% of that coming from small businesses.  A lot of people will be sweating on here

Only those that have avoided paying tax due will be sweating. Those of us that declare and pay what we owe can sleep easy.

With the double whammy that many of those sweating will be losing the benefits they've been leeching while they persue their trading careers. I've always wondered why they say "sweating like a pig" when in reality pigs don't actually sweat much at all !

This might explain it

Once produced, pig iron was not cool enough to move without burning anything it touched until it reached a point at which water vapor condensed on its surface, producing “sweat.” Hence, “sweating like a pig.”

As much as i think this is a good thing for those of us struggling to compete with said tax dodgers, the politicians combined prob swindle 100 times more than the population combined. Js. It is what it is.

I know of someone who cuts lawns 4x a day 5 days a week, March to November. They pay nothing in tax, they get a pension into the bank. They never use a dr card, always cash. So  HMRC can see, if they were to look, that they purchase petrol for their car, they must because the MOT shows the mileage, but nothing goes through the bank to payfor it. Same for food, must eat, no transactions, council tax, paid in cash, and so on. I know HMRC have been made aware and given many details over a year ago, I also know they have done nothing.

So yes, people should pay tax, no I don't think they have too much to to fear. I always suggest people pay something as I did to this person and HMRC will take that as a win.

It's not a perfect world, this person also moans about NHS waiting lists.....

For anyone wanting to read the facts and make their own minds up as opposed to quoting select figures seemingly in order to produce heat, below is a report on the matter which gives the full picture. The article heading has a 'bring-back-hanging' vibe due to This Is Money being an off-shoot of the Daily Mail...

The following quote is from HMRC  when answering a question regarding selling personal items on ebay  -  Any one any idea what they would mean by this response ?

'An individual would have to consider whether the activities were sufficiently organised to be a trade.'

Because i used to do his tax return. He wouldn't have a clue to do it himself and he still does everything to avoid putting anything through his bank account thinking this is clever.

Hitting the disabled and others, those that live on not very much and now even less it seems, whilst there’s 21bn in covid fraud waiting to be recouped

Last govt said it would be hard to do

as if they didn’t know who they wrote the cheques out to

They can always cover up their sweat with some spray and maybe some cosmetics - Maybe it's Maybelline.......... Maybe it's Temu.
