Care when Bulk Relisting or Sell Similar for Low Value Items as all Changing to SD

I bulk listed some low value items on another account yesterday and they were all listed as postage with Royal Mail as under £10. The bulk listing has changed them all to Simple Delivery which doesn't normally happen so I think eBay have changed this.

I was only made aware when someone messaged me saying they though postage was a high for an item that can be sent as a Large letter and could I send it as a large letter.

Simple Delivery is for private sellers though, not business sellers, so that's a weird one.

Can you screenshot it and post it here if it happens again?

Could be a glitch if it was yesterday it switched?

I'm becoming very weary of keep having to check the same settings over & over to make sure they've not been changed.

My OH has just been confused by reading that he's bought a postage label, but upon checking it's the buyer who's paid.  His postage keeps reverting to collection and postage too... it's just endless time wasting 😒

It is not on this business account. It is on my other private account.  Thanks

Large letters are not exempt from SD. Only letters, by Royal Mail's classification of "letter", which weigh under 100g are exempt.

Really? Just read the SD blurb and yes it does indeed say that. So, if you sell say a CD which needs to go as a large letter under 100g a buyer has to pay £2.70 instead of £1.55?

How on earth will eBay know if something should go as a letter or a large letter. For example on this business account I sell buttons. If I sell a low quantity, say 10 buttons and they are thin buttons I can sew onto card and send as a letter. Some buttons are thicker so therefore have to go as a large letter.

Same with  knitting patterns.  Some vintage black and white patterns are really small and can go as a letter whereas some are A4 size, weigh well under 100g and now have to go as LL at £2.70 with this not so Simple Delivery!!! and that does not account for the cost of any packaging.

Last night I also went to bulk list just two items and they were showing up as SD so I cancelled and listed individually.

I just did a mixed sell similar bulk relisting of 50 items. Postage from RM 85p, £1.55, £1.90 & Yodel £2.69. All under £10.

There is a banner at the top of the page which tells you how many items will be switched to SD, but not which items they are.

I had 3 items switched:

1 packet of postcards £2.69 on Yodel.

1 twist drill £1.55 RM

1 lot of postcards £1.55 RM

All the others were left alone and all 3 could be switched back. I would have been happy for the yodel one to stay on SD, but I wanted to try to see if it would let me do it.

Hello knit-in-Styles,

Wow … great news that under 100g letters can go custom postage !!!

But only in a letter envelope, not a large letter envelope apparently.

It didn't change any large letter £1.90 or the rest of the £1.55 items and as I said I could change them all back to custom postage.

I am going to do some more tomorrow so I will experiment a little, there is a possibility that the ones it changed didn't have weight or size added. The yodel small parcel is a mystery. I would have thought that option would have been removed.

I have done another bulk listing today.  It is hard to ascertain what rules the system is currently following, but It does look like every small parcel or perhaps just Yodel is converting to SD as well as anything that does not have weights and sizes set in the listing.

All could be changed back still
