Buyers returning items

Although the buyer when having to return an item ie "if it doesn't fit"etc has to pay the return postage i've never understood why the buyer doesn't have to pay the postage for the item being sent out. Seems a tad unfair for the seller

Of course buyers pay the postage cost to have things sent out if a postage price is quoted. If item is listed as free p+p then their is obviously no p+p to pay unless a seller offers other enhanced services or to different areas/countries.

'.....why the buyer doesn't have to pay the postage for the item being sent out.....'

Er, sorry am I missing something here?

There's no such thing as 'free postage' . The cost of the postage is simply added to the cost of the item.

And, if you're buying from a business seller (they pay fees) the 'free postage' maybe even slightly more expensive, because the seller will pay fees on the postage part of the payment as well as the item part....

I think op may mean its unfair that the buyer gets their original postage refunded on a return.

No, if the seller sends an item to a buyer with ie £5 p&p, the buyer tries item etc doesn't fit or whatever then sends the item back . Why does the buyer not have to pay for  the sellers  eg £5 p&p?
