Buyer wants to return sandles

I sold a pair of sliders over two weeks ago. They were a size 6.

The seller has now come back today to say she would like to return them as they don't fit her as they feel weird when walking in them.

She also says that my sliders measure up as a size 7 and not a size 6 that they are clearly marked as.

She has sent me photos of her old sliders as a comparison to show me the difference.

I said I didn't accept returns on the listing for the simple reason that I don't want the hassle of having to resell. I too in the past have bought trainers that haven't fitted but have just sold them on.

If the sliders  are marked as a size 6 but measure on the insoles as a size 7 as she claims and has shown me, who is at fault, is it me for not measuring in the first place.

If I decline the return can she still claim through eBay as item not as described.

I feel also that if I were to accept the return that I may not get them sold again this summer as peak summer season will be finishing.

Thanks

Buyer wants to return sandles

Thanks everyone for your comments. I sent the buyer an email saying I wasn't accepting her return but never heard anything.

I have now decided to let her send them back at her cost but eBay says they have to be sent back by 22 August which is three weeks away. I have asked the buyer to send as quickly as possible as summer sales will be slowing down.

If they are labelled with the wrong size thats a "not as described"  return which all sellers have to accept.  But if she used the reason "doesn't fit" thats change of mind which you don"t have to accept.

'I said I didn't accept returns on the listing for the simple reason that I don't want the hassle of having to resell. I too in the past have bought trainers that haven't fitted but have just sold them on.'

Yes, it is a hassle to have to resell, and I also resell (or give away) items that don't fit, but a lot of buyers don't sell, so they prefer to return. Even if you put 'no returns', that doesn't stop buyers from asking!

The problem with shoes & clothes, is that sizing varies so much, but if you put the right size in the listing, the buyer can't say they were not as described - it is just their word that they are a 'large' size 6 - although that may be true.

It usually turns out to be less trouble to accept a 'doesn't fit' return, rather than have the buyer decide they have 'found a fault' and open a not as described case, instead.

Even though it might be getting to the end of the sandal season, people still buy for holidays at all times of the year - you may be lucky & sell for more than the first time around... 😊

Buyer wants to return sandles

This all depends on whether or not the customer has opened a return request and what the reason for that request is.

No, as a private seller you don't have to accept change of mind returns.

However, if the customer opens a not as described return, then you have no option but to accept it.

She has listed the reason for return as "doesn't fit". If I decline the return which eBay says I can do. Can they still come back and open another case as not as described.

I cannot explain why the internal sole measurement of the shoe equates to a size 7 as she showed me in her photos. I did not provide internal sole length measurement in my listing. There seems to be lots of differences in length and shoe size depending what you click on.

Annoying.

I'd just accept the return and save yourself some hassle. Doesn't fit return are generally paid for by the buyer unless you have stated otherwise

If that is the reason chosen, then you can indeed decline it with no comeback.
However, that does not mean that the customer cannot then go the route of a chargeback, which they will likely win.

So by far, your safest option, is to just accept the return and let them send the item back at their own cost.
Or you face the possibility of losing the cash and the item itself.

Buyer wants to return sandles

It's a difficult situation - because buyer's have the backing of eBay and can make your life difficult.

I would just ask her to open a return for the reason "didn't fit" or 'didn't like them'.  That way they will have to return them at their own cost.  If they open a NAD case you will end up forking out for the return label and will have to add that cost to the item when you relist.

Add buyer to your blocked list - I do that every time I have problem buyer (unless it turns out I made a mistake!).

Suggest with clothing you provide as many measurements as possible - nothing is standard nowadays.  I always show the measurements using an old school ruler - even removing an insole to show measurements.  You can't be too careful.  Takes longer initially but often prevents returns.

I had similar - sis in Aus sent me pair of Uggs but they were too small.  I sold them and buyer asked to return.  They were brand new with tags attached to the footwear and box.  I provided all measurements.  She returned them (at her own cost) but she had removed the tags fitted to the footwear.  She obviously wanted the tags - as she could have tried them on without removing them.  I reported her.

The problem is when the Buyer says  I WANT TO RETURN THE ITEM ..is the Seller who ends paying  always, even if you add “no return accepted”

That's not true at all.

If you allow the buyer to return as they have changed their mind, THEY will pay for the return.

But if you want to be awkward with a customer, that's when they will open a not as described case and then YOU have to pay for it.
