Hi, just after some advice. Buyer bought a collect only item (wardrobe doors), where the measurement was slightly out so wanted to return. Didn't give us an option to go and collect it from him (which we would have done) just sent a message saying his ETA when already on the way. My gf was on her own when he got there and all fine to start with but then confronted her on the driveway saying he wanted additional money to cover his petrol. My gf said we were happy to refund and would need to check with eBay on anything else - not least because you can't refund for more than paid. Just looking for some advice on what to do!

You only have to refund them for the purchase amount. I would write a polite message to them and explain that you are sorry that they were not as described and you will issue them with a full refund although you cannot pay towards the cost of the return as this was not agreed and you would have been willing to collect them.
Unfortunately, you may get negative feedback from this experience but that's life and not the end of the world and you can reply, short and sweet, that you were prepared to collect the items if it had been arranged beforehand.

You can only refund what you were paid. The buyer chose to return the doors himself and so chose to incur the extra costs.

To be honest I agree with what has already been said in response to your post, but once you have refunded the money that the buyer paid for the item, make sure that you add his User ID to your Blocked Bidders List so that he cannot purchase anything else from you in the future and cause you any further aggravation.

Done! Thank you 🙂
