Hi,

I've been selling items on eBay for years (mainly games) & I’ve recently listed a game which has the new ‘buyer protection’ added to the buy it now price but the final price is a lot higher. I’ve set the buy it now at £29.99 with £2 postage which is displayed on the active selling section.

But when I go into view the actual listing it’s says £37.91 buy it now & £2.40 postage.

When I check the buyer protection fee is says £1.92 but the item price says £35.99 not £29.99!

Can anyone explain to me why there is an extra £6 added to the item price & 40p to the postage?

Also is this buyer protection now a mandatory thing on all private seller listings?

Any help & advice would be greatly appreciated.

This did happen to another seller last week, it's like some kind of VAT fee has been added to the item price when it shouldn't be.

Try asking eBay what's going on here, and then pop back and let us know what they say.

As stated this has happened to a couple of other posters recently, although those were for books. They eventually managed to resolve the issue by rearranging the listing title.

For some reason eBay is treating your listing as an international sale and, therefore, adding VAT. It is nothing to do with the Buyer Protection Fee.

It definitely has VAT added for some reason.

I live in Lancashire but this is what your listing looks like at checkout.

Thank you for the replies everyone, I did contact eBay & I was in the process of trying to sort it out over the phone when I got cut off. Today I decided to completely start a new listing for the same item & same price and it’s how it should be. So maybe just a weird glitch before.
