eBay's "helpful" advice on submitting an offer

Not making a song and dance about this; it should possibly be on the buyers' form, but it affects us sellers too, as we can be on the other side of the transaction.

I made an offer for something earlier. It was rejected, which is fair enough - I would probably have rejected it myself.

However, shortly afterwards, eBay sent me an email, advising that if I increased the amount of my offer to 99.28% or more of the amount the seller was looking for, there might be a better chance of it being accepted.

They expect me to ask for a discount of £1.09 or less on an item priced at £151.52!

Who on earth programs their systems to turn out nonsense like this?

That is so stupid, does eBay really expect people to put an offer in of just a pound less on an item with an asking price of just over £150? For that you may as well just pay the asking price. At that asking price I would be offering at least £10 less or more than likely 10% less.

I agree with you. Normally, I would offer about 10% under, but this lot was seriously over-priced.
