A buyer bought an item today (Buy-it-now), paid, and five minutes later requested to cancel. I agreed to the cancellation as there is nothing to be gained by refusing.
The buyer has been refunded from my Available Funds. The payment to me is showing as pending. How long before I actually receive the money I have refunded?
I can't ship it and I can't provide tracking and it'll never be delivered. So ... two weeks is it? Or what?
Ridiculous.

I don’t know the answer but this is
Bizarre
buyer paid ebay who hold onto the money until delivery normally
seeing as this isn’t going to happen ebay should return the buyers money from THEIR account , where the money actually is!
its like you lending eBay money
it’s just not right
and if you had no available funds?
from helppages just in case they help 😐
If the buyer completed payment through eBay checkout and the seller cancels the order, a full refund will be issued to the buyer's original payment method.
If payment was not completed through eBay checkout and the seller cancels the order, the seller will be responsible for issuing a full refund to the buyer.

If you had no available funds, eBay would swipe the money from your bank account...
It is really frustrating that refunding, which used to be a quick & simple return of the buyers payment, has now become a right old palaver.

Follow up:
At some time late yesterday evening, the funds for the cancelled item moved from "Pending" to "Available".
Whether this is the system at work, or a quiet response to this thread, or a response to my rather shirty use of the comment button to tell them what I think of their cancellation system, I know not.
Some clarity as to how the cancellation system is supposed to work would be nice.
