Automated feedback received for sale over 6 months ago

I have just received an automated feedback for a sale I made over 6 months ago - are eBay now going back through older sales and adding automated feedback for these?  How far back are they going to go?

That would be nice,since I started trading on Ebay I must be owed at least 5k in feedback I've not received.

Obviously something in it for eBay...........not sure what though. Pretty sure they aren't doing it for the benefit of the sellers! In my opinion, just another spanner in the works of a system not fit for purpose.
