Just been told, after a number of requests for valid ID, that my account has been restricted. 😠😦😡
I uploaded my (out of date) passport and heard NOTHING from ebay, and now this? I don't have an in date passport, nor drive, or have a national ID card. 🤔
Spoke to an agent and explained the situation and rather than being sympathetic they asked me to renew my passport. I told them I would only be updating my passport to use ebay and other sites are not so restrictive.
I've been this site for 23 years and now I'm seriously considering going elsewhere. Angry isn't the word!
There should be more options to help those that don't have such ID to hand.

Sorry to hear this.....My mum had a similar problem obtaining probate with no Driving Licence or Passport but was told a Concessionary Buss Pass is an acceptable for of ID for those luckily enough to have one. Hope you get sorted.

Hi greggcds, thanks for your post.
I'm afraid that if the ID in question is expired, it wouldn't pass verification. While I understand this could be frustrating for you, all sellers have to go through this verification flow at some stage to make sure everything is compliance with local laws and regulations, and this also helps keeping eBay a safe platform.
You can try renewing your ID, but alternatively, you can apply for a different ID such as a driver license. Alternatively, you can try uploading your birth certificate with a utility bill with your current address on it, and that will do for you. Just make sure that when you're uploading these documents, they can be read (not blurry or shadows on them), and make sure that you upload the document in full (if cut off a corner or something like that and the document doesn't show in full, it won't pass verification).
Thank you,
Marco

Marco,
Thanks for the clarification. I've uploaded my Council Tax bill for the financial year, but was unsure which Type I was to select from the drop-down options. I selected Government ID, I think, so would that be OK?
If not, which do I choose?

Greggcds

Hi greggcds, thanks for your reply.
Yes, as long as the documents uploaded are ok, that should be fine. Also, Government ID is fine, and the documents you uploaded should be fine as well, please note that the council tax bill on its own won't be sufficient, this still needs to be supported by a 2nd document such as a utility bill.
Thank you,
Marco

Marco,
Thanks. Just uploaded a Thames Water bill. Uploaded under Residence Permit. Have a tax certificate for the last financial year on standby...

Marco,
Seems this is going to go on for awhile and I have a plethora of ID to upload to prove my identity.😕 Tax certificate uploaded.
This is becoming a little tiresome...😡
Anyone recommend alternative selling sites as it's looking like I'm going to have to leave due to this tomfoolery?
Regards,
greggcds

Other sites are likely to be the same. I was asked for a passport or driving license scan when I was selling on Amazon years ago. Vinted say they also may require such ID; I've never sold there but did look into it.

basically ebay are driving people to come off and stop using the site if you HAVE TO pay for ID you dont need like passport, driving licence etc .... its not justified and unnecessary, time to go to a competitor - vinted etc

Honestly, it would terrify me not to have a passport or and be unable to prove that I'm really me.
Identity theft is on the rise, it's so important to be able to prove that you are really you when somebody else has more ID pretending to be you than you do. Day in, day out I see people having to deal with this, it can take years to sort everything out once somebody has decided to be you. Even if I was never going to travel, I'd invest in a passport.
