I am absolutely furious having just had email from eBay (31/3/25).
unless this is an April Fool joke a day early, EVERY METHOD EXCEPT (their own) SIMPLE DELIVERY has been axed and “simple” delivery is now the ONLY way to send:
Starting from 15 April, Simple Delivery will be the only delivery method available for private sellers when listing most items. There’ll be a few exceptions, such as low-priced, bulky items, and local pick-up, which aren’t eligible for Simple Delivery.
This is absolutely outrageous as I support my local post office buying stamps and now that has been removed they will close. This is the final nail in the coffin for eBay as they have removed EVERYTHING in buyers and sellers favour, all for themselves. They now control every aspect of buying and selling so it’s all on their terms.
I am shocked, horrified, disgusted and can’t believe they will get away with this.
Unfortunately they will continue and not go bust because there will always be people out there who think eBay is fantastic. It is no longer any good for anyone, except themselves.
GREED, GREED, GREED and I urge everyone to go elsewhere.

Just experienced this recently, simple being the only option and they charged almost £13 to ship something via royal mail I would usually only be charged £3.90 for when setting up postage myself... Clearly some skimming going on and eBay is reaming both ends, overcharging postage to take in extra then a protection fee that you can't opt out of that sounds suspiciously like ppi on two private individuals? Can't wait til there's a class action brought up a few years down the line and they have to pay all of the money back.

I'm almost positive this is illegal under UK anti competition laws. Just comes down to how quickly the watchdog learns of it. Same thing they did when they forced u to use paypal.

that’s steep for a small parcel which 3.90 with rm would be ?
what did it weigh/size was it, just curious

my bad, it was an older console and I just checked it's actually £3.35, small parcel <=2KG within the 45x35x16cm dimensions.
assuming the box accounted for 200g the whole package still would've only been around 1.5kg so it wasn't due to the weight, they're clearly just skimming. Even if it was a larger parcel, medium up to 10KG is £6.55 with the dimensions 61x46x46. or £4.95 if it was those dimensions but <=2KG
Only if it exceeded those e.g 15/20KG~ would it cost £10.55, which is STILL cheaper than the £13 ebay charged me...

Thanks for replying
i dont understand why it happened
i wouldn't have paid it

It's entirely automated now, literally isn't an option since they hold the funds and automatically deduct it from the sale since I choose free postage for the buyer, otherwise the cost just goes to the buyer, advertised as their only option is to pay this £13 on top of the listing price + buyer protection % and then as a buyer you think the seller is the one charging that amount of postage and obviously avoid it because that's way too high and makes it looks like the seller is trying to skim more postage than it actually costs - which is exactly the experience I have on ebay as a buyer. Looks like it's only limited to private sellers though. Assuming ebay is just trying to kill the private selling sector and just become amazon 2.0 with high prices for buyers and exorbitant fees across the board and the only products being held at the frontline is chinese manufactured garbage that's rarely fit for purpose.

You should have cancelled the sale and relisted it with correct postage options
the postage was obviously wrong by a long mile
not sure what actually happened still
Custom postage is still available for a lot of people
sorry not much help now

I very much doubt that you no longer buying stamps will close your local post office, they will get paid for every package put through their hands using ebay delivery - it is quite possible that they will handle many more packages with the new free selling for private accounts increasing their income when balanced against the loss of the sale of a few postage stamps.
With a bit of luck the sellers of counterfeit cheap stamps on ebay who really do hit post offices in the pocket will suffer as sellers are forced to buy genuine postal labels via ebay - that alone has to be a good thing for your local post office !
