Today at 09.00  every thread on P.1 of the SC board was a complaint about Straightjacket Delivery.  (OK there were a couple about selling restrictions, both from the same author)

I think this continuing anger and the increasing number of private sellers coming here to vent it shows that the "loud but tiny minority" theory is becoming less tenable with every day that passes and by now ebay should be thinking about reversing its roll out.

Hopefully most, if not all, of those coming here to complain will have reduced, if not deleted all their listings and stopped buying to make it clear to ebay that taking control of seller's delivery options is not acceptable (even if it worked properly) and private sellers want 'Simple' Delivery  REMOVED from ebay.uk

I am genuinely confused, gjalp. You have a rented storage unit and an attic full of stamps?

All you have listed (2,262 items) or sold in the last 3 months (785 ditto) is stamps. That's an awful lot of personal items. Or an awful lot of items inherited from stamp-collecting relatives...

Only Private sellers are required to use Simple Delivery. Oh, sorry - that should read "Only Private sellers and Businesses incorrectly registered as Private sellers are required to use Simple Delivery"...

You should do your homework better before jumping in.  Those items are listed on a BUSINESS account.

Well thanks for clearing that up and admitting you haven't got a clue if what you said was correct or not....as even you have said the days of the Private Seller are ending here and being replaced by any members left or joining within that area and not as a Business moving to a bridge between the old Private seller and Business...of course when these "new private sellers" get told Oh and if you want to avoid the Buyers Protection and the Simply Delivery just sign on as a Business, they are more than willing cause they were already half way there...and you can see the day, very soon when there won't be a Private Seller I wonder what will happen to Simply Delivery then?

I was only replying to your post on my own behalf - offering my own thoughts - not dch2112011

 they will reply separately.

I suppose one of the dangers of Boards.

'I'm not sure where you are basing and can show what you say about Private Sellers growing on here, I don't see it '

The information is in the public domain  for  2025  first quarter

'eBay's Q1 2025 financials reflect strong strategic execution, with Gross Merchandise Volume climbing to $18.8 billion and revenue hitting $2.6 billion. The platform also rebounded to 134  million active buyers, recovering from a slight dip in 2023.

eBay recorded $18.8 billion in Gross Merchandise Volume (GMV) in Q1 2025, reflecting a 1% rise from the previous season on a reported basis and a 2% rise on adjusted foreign exchange (FX-neutral).

"eBay's first quarter results were ahead of expectations, as we delivered our fourth consecutive quarter of positive GMV growth. Our Focus Categories and geo-specific investments are driving momentum in the business, and we continue to innovate – leveraging AI to make our marketplace more efficient and intuitive for customers," said Jamie Iannone, Chief Executive Officer at eBay.

eBay's full-year revenue for the fiscal year 2024 was $10.3 billion, a 2% increase from $18.6 billion in 2024 on an as-reported and FX-neutral basis.
eBay is doing well by all financial metrics. The company recorded a net income of $505.0 million (up 15% from 1Q 2024), a profit margin of 20% (up from 17% in 1Q 2024), and earnings per share of $1.08 (up from US$0.85 in 1Q 2024), exceeding industry expectations by 5.7%.

Trading cards, motor parts & accessories, luxury goods, refurbished items, and apparel are contributing to eBay's growth.
These strategic Focus Categories have been instrumental in eBay delivering its fourth consecutive quarter of positive GMV growth.
In Q1 2025, these focus categories collectively grew by over 6% YoY, significantly contributing to eBay's GMV.
These categories now make up over 1/3rd of eBay's total GMV.
Trading cards continued their momentum with double-digit growth for the 9th consecutive quarter.

eBay enhanced the U.K. consumer-to-consumer (C2C) seller experience by introducing a simplified mobile listing flow, eBay balance, managed shipping, and improved local pickup and discovery features.
The consumer-to-consumer (C2C) marketplace also eliminated final value and regulatory operating fees for the U.K. C2C sellers across all categories except motor vehicles, introducing a buyer protection fee with enhanced 24/7 customer support to boost trust.

Thanks for all that it was very helpful....so just to be clear that was last year and the first few months of this year...BEFORE the changes, and it also begs the question if everything was rosey in the garden, why change it? it doesn't quite answer the question I posed, you would have thought that it would have been the opposite to warrant such a rapid change to Business and a move away from Private sellers, especially with the information provided before they changed

"ebay are actively promoting and attracting more genuine private sellers than they are losing"

It would be great to see these figures and projections to back this up and show us all thats the case

You can go to your settings and change your eBay working days to accommodate the time limit.

BSD (Before Simple Delivery) I used to have 5 working days dispatch time. When SD landed on my listings I changed my working days to Tues/Weds/Thurs only and this has largely taken the pressure off - if you have time you can still package things and get them shipped on an eBay "non-working" day, and maybe even impress your buyers as the item may arrive ahead of schedule.

"Managed shipping" is the corporate name for Simple Delivery.  The powers-that-be obviously thought "Simple Delivery" was a more catchy marketing name, presumably dreamed up by somebody who had never used it.

The figures quoted (assuming they are accurate, no source has been given) reflect ebay's global position, which is heavily weighted towards the USA, who have not had Managed Shipping (ie SD) imposed upon them.  It will be more interesting to see figures just for the UK.

All the figures are sourced from ebay however there is some in depth analysis on UK platform performances and these show ebay uk doing well against the competition in the last three months.

Given the increase in buyers  announced by ebay - they seem to be doing more than holding their own with online sales -  all of this information is in the public domain - real time moitoring of sales and revenue for all platforms and major retailers can be chosen, viewed and compared on a like for like basis -

All UK based platforms are down but ebay less than the others !  Information up to June 5th Yesterday

Over the past three months, ebay.co.uk revenue has experienced decline of 13%, compared to the preceding three months. hit rate 4- 4.5%

Over the past three months, amazon.co.uk revenue has experienced decline of 15%, compared to the preceding three months hit rate 4-4.5%

Over the past three months, Vinted.com revenue has experienced growth of 2.6%, compared to the preceding three months.  (WORLDWIDE FASHION AND APPARELL ONLY)  hit rate 1.5 -2% - this is only  a small growth on the Jan to March figures which were awful as ebay took buyers and sellers away from them  and even though a 2.6% growth was recorded  against the first quarter it merely shows  a  slow down of the exodus or return of a few buyers  following their ebay retalitory ad campaign

Yesterday's  Vinted revenue was down
Jul 4 vs 5, 2025
Industry revenue was down yesterday
Fashion and Apparel
Last week's revenue was down
Jun 23-29 vs Jun 16-22, 2025
Industry revenue was up last week
Fashion and Apparel
Last month's revenue was down
Apr vs May, 2025
Industry revenue was up last month
Fashion and Apparel

Over the past three months, etsy.com revenue has experienced decline of 27%, compared to the preceding three months hit rate 1.5 - 2 %

just realised that by offering FREE POSTAGE it still doesnt allow you to opt out , looks like you STILL HAVE TO BUY YOUR POSTAGE through SD - so still no option for RM tracked 24 or 48 *bleep* !!!!

Tried the £800 workaround which works up until you correct the price , whereupon it changes back to SD

I like how losing 13% in the 2nd 3 months compared to losing 4.5% in the 1st 3 months after a host of sweeping changes is considered as doing well....I wonder how well they are doing in the 3rd 3 months now that everything is mandatory and there is no alternative or loopholes to exploit and its SD or leave if your a private seller....I wonder how many of those buyers and sellers stuck around after March when the changes hit....I remember a time when Ebay was a monopoly and brought out any upstart, now they seem happy to be one of them

That info was for ebay UK  excluding all other territories

The interesting part of the up to date figures is ebay's sales conversion rate  and the overall sales down turn on all platforms which ebay are coming out as the least affected even though it is an overall 13% downturn from the  1st Qtr - Amazon is down 15% -  this information is gathered in real time and can be accessed for any online sales outlet for comparison  going back to 2009

Vinted have been hammered by ebay in the first qtr but has gained a very small amount in the 2nd qtr but it is very shaky and Etsy is losing sales and heading for the ditch

ebay are ranked 4th in ecommerce - the only ones above them are Amazon, Walmart and one other - in the UK they are second behind Amazon

The 13% downturn in sales compared with 1st quarter ending March 2025 is less than Amazon 15% Etsy 27% although vinted increased by 2.6% but this increase was on awful 1st qtr figures and followed vinted's ad campaign - bear in mind vinted are a bit player compared to ebay and Amazon and are suffering from ebay's increase in private sellers and buyers who have moved allegiances.

These figures are gathered from the platforms and major retailers and are used to identify product and sales trends for businesses and can be monitored in real time - this is one of the tools major sellers use to stay ahead of the game but interesting for private sellers to see what is really happening on ebay rather than applying their own spin on the new structures as if it applies to the majority of members.

“Vinted are a bit player compared to eBay “

is that why eBay have copied their two main policies ?

and badly at that ? lol they were so knee jerk they forgot to copy the parts that actually work well for its customers but instead chose not to

ie full selection of couriers to chose from, buyer and seller chose which couriers they prefer, it’s not dictated of them or kept secret from them,  ability  to combine postage, extremely easy listing compared fo convoluted , etc etc etc

Thats what I was thinking are we comparing Ebay to Vinted? Even with changes Ebay as still lost a further 13% on top of the 4.5% and now that the changes are Mandatory from July 1st how much will Ebay lose in the 3rd 3 months?

For sure Vinted are a bit player compared to Amazon or ebay just look at this quarters figures - Vinted worldwide are less than 1% of ebay's UK operation - if you look at ebay worldwide vinted hardly register against ebay !

Vinted Worldwide 5.1M Revenue 2.6M Sessions 1.5-2.0% Conv. rate $100-125 AOV

ebay UK ONLY 620.7M Revenue 192.1M Sessions 4.0-4.5% Conv. rate $75-100 AOV
