So 6th August is when everything is supposed to switch to Simple Delivery, even existing listings. Not sure how that will work because I don't have dimensions or weights listed for any of my items. It will also be the day I take down my listings if it becomes mandatory and I can see myself buying very little in the future on ebay becuse the funds won't be there from sales. How to ruin a decent selling platform...

What’s not true?
If you can list your items in a exempt category that takes custom then that’s fine eg your coin or postcard jewellery etc)
But if they must go simple delivery you pay for the (more expensive) label when putting free post and don’t get it refunded if you send untracked
anyway that’s my understanding

I'll admit I haven't tried it yet, have been cancelling items rather than adding more.
I have custom postage but if Ebay gives me an SD label anyway I'm not sure what I'll do next. Go and have a long think?
First of all I need to sell something. That's easier said than done!

Everyone onto SD in april they said
then we were told everyone on by end June
now it was by 6 august
next announcement will say by xmas

Yes, I just created a brand new listing from scratch, outside criteria for exemption and still has the advanced options drop down as before.

That’s very interesting
it means some people can still get custom postage and others can’t for the same items
naff
Listing a 45 vinyl record shoves me onto simple delivery

Possibly an announcement in October first, then another at Xmas?

They know what we know they’re not ready to inflict it on the whole eBay customer base without getting it right
we were the Guinea pigs
And boy have we ran around for them

When I have been relisting , (as sell similar), custom postage has been coming up, but to get having the price, I have had to refresh then it magically appears again with the price I'd used. I will find out later tonight if that still holds as some LL finish tonight and I will try relisting again, the first since 6th Aug.

Will be interesting to see whether it still allows you or if there are further hoops you'll be forced to jump through. It seems to allow different users to do different things. I have one listing that I can't update as that will go to SD and I may never get it back on custom postage.

But what year?😀
I don't suppose they set out to become a laughing stock but it seems to have gone that way, and in truth they've only got themselves to blame 😳

Laughing stock example eve Williams ceo of eBay uk
We’re making Simple Delivery even more flexible. It will soon be easier to send heavier parcels, thanks to DHL being added as a new courier option in the coming weeks. This service comes complete with doorstep collection, making it even more convenient to send big and bulky items.
easier than what ? It was easy with custom which you then ended
whilst that might be true ie new option and let’s see the prices first you’ve barred every seller for weeks on end trying to send anything larger than a medium parcel
what’s your excuse for THAT eve and all the frustration hey??

If they hadn't been in such a hurry to get SD up & running asap, and had spent more time getting it working properly from the start, they could've avoided an awful lot of the upset & outcry.
I would think anything they have gained from starting it off 'half-baked', will have been lost by all the trouble it has caused... Even if they make improvements & get the issues fixed, that will not compensate private sellers for the months of confusion - or end the resentment at being forced to either use an unsatisfactory system, or stop selling altogether.
We certainly have been the guinea pigs... and more fool us! 🐹

Some kind of consultation with the users (i.e. us) would have been helpful there, but then SD would probably have been a non-starter because of all the upheaval (that sellers warned about) it has caused.
Some kind of 'strategy' has been missing all along though. Only last month Ebay suddenly reworked the buyer fees to make low-value items cheaper to sell. BUT that'll only work if there's an opt-out from SD or far wider exemptions than we presently have.
So now we have sellers desperate to hold on to custom postage and avoid the imminent price hikes? Some further rolling back by Ebay would seem to be in order. This thing is still not 'working' just yet.
Or maybe it never will?

Calling it something more honest than *Simple* Delivery would have avoided adding fuel to the fire as well.

I’ll always smart the system if I need to they can say what they like
when they talk rubbish it’s on them always and their reputation
not my problem it’s theirs
off to cook a late dinner lol and get the 🍿 out

"easier than what ? It was easy with custom which you then ended”
Well Eve Williams announced that they had adjusted the BPF and the payment dates because they had taken account of feedback from users. So on the same basis, they should be making Simple Delivery optional on August 6th.

Tried to relist some postcards today-default to Simple Delivery and the 'work around' doesn't work now so didn't relist..
Time to throw in the towel with eBay after 20 odd years ..shame...
