6th August

So 6th August is when everything is supposed to switch to Simple Delivery, even existing listings. Not sure how that will work because I don't have dimensions or weights listed for any of my items. It will also be the day I take down my listings if it becomes mandatory and I can see myself buying very little in the future on ebay becuse the funds won't be there from sales. How to ruin a decent selling platform...

Plenty of businesses misrepresenting as private, thought it might make a change if someone turned on it their head

Re: 6th August

Yes, that is true - adjusting & updating listings is something we all do now & again, but at least you can do that when you have the time, and when you feel like it.

With this ongoing SD roll-out, you have to keep checking in case something has defaulted to an option that's not right - or risk ending up with a wrong label/wrong courier situation... 😱

Anyway, it's nearly the 6th, so it will be interesting to see what actually happens tomorrow..!

Don't be silly, they get the Intern to do the Simple Delivery job 😂

Re: 6th August

I know I'll have to go through each and every listing to check 🙄

Just takes the eBay Intern to mess up with postage @ 10p for everything 😮

Re: 6th August

That makes some sense though I don’t like dissing interns as they’re out of uni and normally know what they’re doing unless management tell them to do something silly and they have no choice j

and/or thinking using AI is perfect when it’s obviously sub standard here

hang on

AI is a robot that does what it’s told ergo the programming of it is sub standard ergo humans judgement etc

haha I don’t care as long as they sort it out and stop creating problems for people

selling on eBay is not supposed to be an assault course 🙄🙄

Re: 6th August

Any bets on it becoming another "staggered rollout". I am actually expecting nothing to happen. I mean they didn't have to do it all tomorrow. It was to be done BY tomorrow. Nothing has happened so far.

I can live with relisting them on Custom Delivery, can Ebay live with the items stagnating on their servers and not selling because postage is too high. Well they will survive, but will they thrive.

Re: 6th August

The eBay message which included 'A reminder about Simple Delivery' said from 6 Aug, so I think you're right to predict another 'staggered rollout'...

'...from 6 Aug, any eligible live listings that aren’t yet using Simple Delivery will switch to this delivery option. In some cases, you may see a change to the courier you selected when listing your item. If you have a preference between Royal Mail and Evri, you can set your preferred courier in your Postage Preferences. There may also be cases where the cost of postage varies from what was initially shown. You can find out more about the rates on our Simple Delivery page.'

Re: 6th August

It occurred to me that if you list as freepost and arrange your own delivery (for an excessively large item) but Ebay has charged you for an unused SD postage large letter or small parcel label...

Then it's arguably 'working as intended'.

We've seen this kind of thing before and it's pretty much everything Ebay ever does.

Re: 6th August

Oooh but it's still early!  eBay not known for it's speed in any matter !

Also,  remember when SD was to start on April 15th,  it actually said From  the 15th,   and I believe it's the same here... From the 6th you will see....... !

So, maybe another slow roll out for things to happen  for everyone? 🤔

Nothing will happen until after 3pm so as to avoid the opportunity for questions about it in the Community Chat!

Re: 6th August

I've just been to my selling page and got a pop-up saying:

You're getting funds faster

Funds from your sales will now typically appear in your eBay balance within 24 hours after the buyer pays.  Learn More

...which took me to this page:

Re: 6th August

Untracked orders are still going to be 14 days!

  • Untracked, or tracked with missing delivery confirmation: Funds will be available 14 calendar days from the order date
    • For untracked orders with a subtotal (excluding postage, fees, taxes) of £10 or less, funds will be available instantly if positive feedback is received from the buyer

Re: 6th August

What I did notice was that last month, I had 6 of my items changed automatically to SD but those 6 were the only items that I had priced at £20+.  All of my items below that price stayed at CD (except for when I went to relist).

Maybe the next mass roll-out will be for something similar i.e. £10 or £15+

Re: 6th August

Well what an anticlimax.  The update posted in “Featured Posts” announced the change to BPF and payment schedules which we were already told about a couple of weeks ago, so the only new thing for private sellers was DHL (which is now partnered with Evri) being added as a courier for heavier items “in the coming weeks”, so it could be 3 months down the line.  Possibly.

No confirmation that Simple Delivery is now being applied to all listings apart from those that are exempt.  So maybe it is, maybe it isn’t...

Re: 6th August

You can ask for a refund as long as your item was sent tracked eith your own courier selection

which is still bad because maybe you sent it untracked because it didn’t need to be

Re: 6th August

I think that's a good point. They could be upgrading by item price or by category. Or even by package size? It makes sense (not that Ebay works this way) to move parcels to SD first as there may be minor savings for buyers with tracked postage vs. stamps. Whereas with letters and large letters under SD the buyers will usually have to pay far more.

I noticed some sellers were reporting being charged last week for an SD postage label when they've sold an item with custom postage paid by the buyer. So SD may even be targeting sellers who tend not to notice these things, especially those who are happy to keep paying unwanted charges (or 'fines')?

In which case, people, keep your wits about you! Maybe you won't know it was with SD until an item sells?

(I have low value items for sale but sadly these are somewhat low interest ones.)

@edwardian-dreams

Yes, I meant SD-inappropriate items, which would usually only need an 87p or £1.55 stamp.

(Unless you meant the sofa in which case definitely use a tracked service - would hate to lose that!)

I took a look at postcard sellers and their custom postage seems unchanged as of today when the switchover is said to be happening , presumably for the last time

but let’s see

either eBay have got it right here this time or as you say , maybe on selling it might show

different

🤞

Re the sofa still wondering how it could come as a large letter 1kg  recommended item

Re: 6th August

Isn't this fun, waiting?

Fills the time we used to spend communicating with buyers and packing orders.

You do remember when we had orders to pack on eBay, don't you?

Next highlight will be to see what happens when my few remaining Custom Postage items come up for listing renewal in a couple of days.

That blade of grass has definitely grown...
