6th August

So 6th August is when everything is supposed to switch to Simple Delivery, even existing listings. Not sure how that will work because I don't have dimensions or weights listed for any of my items. It will also be the day I take down my listings if it becomes mandatory and I can see myself buying very little in the future on ebay becuse the funds won't be there from sales. How to ruin a decent selling platform...

Re: 6th August

What exactly is illegal about them editing items on their platform with T&C's that you agree to, even if you didn't read them?

Re: 6th August

Would you tolerate it if eBay unilaterally changed the price of , say, your Hippo from £5.95 to £1.95  or £10.95?

You would expect to be informed , the listing ended and be invited to relist at their price, or choose not to.

Re: 6th August

I don't think it is the last day of custom postage. Just everything they think should be switched will be switched over to SD.

Re: 6th August

Copied from another thread

I’ve just relisted a bunch of items.  Naturally, ebay have automatically changed my custom shipping to 'simple' (anything but), even though 90% of them are still eligible for custom postage.
Does not bode well IMO

We’ll see tomorrow if they change exempt items ( like cheap CDs in this posters case)  to SD

🍿

I think they’ll put everything on SD and leave people to edit their listings but hoping I’m mistaken

Re: 6th August

Well if they changed it to £1.95 with the buyer paying SD, I'd get more money (as a business seller after fees I'm expecting to get about £1.50 ish after P&P costs, shop fees and listing fees)

If they changed it to £10.95, I'd get more money

But both of the examples don't really matter, it may be something I disagree with but it's not illegal

'I think they’ll put everything on SD and leave people to edit their listings but hoping I’m mistaken'

Yes, that is very likely what will happen - but probably in a haphazard/hit & miss fashion, so the listing checking & editing will have to go on until there is an end to this... 🙄

There used to be no need keep checking your listings, before the introduction of the BPF & Simple Delivery.

Re: 6th August

Yeah while it's not ideal I do actually have a habit of going through everything on a monthly basis to check prices and adjust them if needed, I've picked up on a few of my hiccups as well as eBay's doing it.

Re: 6th August

That’s different

to eBay changing your postcard sent in a small envelope for 87p to a large letter at a whopping 2.72

or your little vase from small parcel to medium parcel  etc etc the funniest  example being send your garden table and chairs  for 2.72 large letter with SD

chalk and cheese mate

Re: 6th August

I was just replying to the example on the hippo, the thing is though, while they will put the price up for the buyer, it's not making an unfair marketplace for you, because it'll happen to every seller, well the private ones anyway.

It'll just make it harder to make a sale because everyone's similar sized items will look like they are poor value.

As a business I can still do a 2nd class letter (for now), have you considered changing to a business account? You don't need to be an actual business but you'll have access to setting your own postage that way, but obviously there'll be other fees so you'll be worse off that way instead.

If you input the weight and size into the description they won't have to guess and label it as the wrong size, the £2.72 is for tracked 48 Large Letter, standard letter doesn't exist for that service so eBay can't offer it even if they want to as it's a Royal Mail issue not theirs

Re: 6th August

It's always nice to get advance warning of these looming 'episodes', although we can never know what to expect.

Advance warning of last weekend's SD 'adventure' would have saved hundreds of sellers from having to embark on a wild goose chase between post offices in a vain attempt to send a parcel. You could safely have cancelled all your listings until the storm had blown over and simply relisted everything again this morning. 😊

@edwardian-dreams

garden table and folding chairs, presumably?

Re: 6th August

6th August - We are Simple Delivery doomed 😱

I'll still can't believe how eBay wants more from the seller for RM Small Parcel tracked 48 with the item price £100 - £150. RM wants £3.45 but eBay is charging more. How is cheaper for the buyer?

Re: 6th August

Just out of interest how much do eBay charge for it?

Re: 6th August

SD postage jumps from £3.38 to £3.94 for small parcels over £100.

For large letters it's even worse, from £2.72 to around £3.45.

That's with RM as only courier.

Re: 6th August

That sounds right, I only now do RM. Pre-SD I cound choose between RM/Evri for individual listing which was great for items RM LL UK and Small Parcel Evri when GSP as I upgrade the packaging

I'm not sure it's quite that easy.

Presenting yourself as a business when you're *not* one is a bit of a dodgy action. OK it's not as immoral as presenting youself as *private* when you actually are a business, but various shades of officialdom still won't like it 🙁

Re: 6th August

🤭

dont get me started

ebay says it recommends me to send a sofa as a 1kg small parcel with sd whatever

Then  again post offices have been instructed to accept it

ecuse the sarcasm but this is soooooo unprofessional but seems the top dogs don’t care a jot  about their reputation at least I’d be ashamed

Re: 6th August

I reckon you should try it.

Make sure you pick a day on which small parcels (and sofas) were being accepted at PO's tho'.  😉

Better still, fork out the 30p to arrange a collection? It sounds like a bargain!
