I am a pensioner and since my husband past I have been using nearly all of 1000 listings per month as I am trying to sell things (down sizing) to try & help make life a bit more viable with the cost of everything nowadays. It is a huge reduction for private sellers 1000 down to only 300 per month. Good for businesses less competition. I spoke to an ebay agent on the telephone and complained about it and was told it has brought us into line with Europe. Doesn't ebay know we are no longer in the EU so that arguement falls flat on its face.
I am hardly selling many items anymore because of this so, I will look at other sites to sell on . Ebay I have been with you for over 16 years shame on you.

Have just sorted a " charity bag" of clothes - even when the first introduction of " free to sell" on clothes I didn't list , as I don't usually sell them.
I have a question - a little off topic but does anyone know that since the fee to sell clothes started does that include clothes businesses too? As there are loads of " private sellers" with 100's of brand new upmarket branded clothes.

I have a short memory 😉

I have to say I took that 'encouragement' post as a joke hence my 'helpful'. Not sure if it is a genuine cut-n-paste or just someone clever enough to do a good impression of the sort of guff they come up with.

I agree about the monthly pay cycle, even just before christmas for second hand stuff but i also do no think it is a coincidence that this 4/5 sales one week and nothing for 3 which is happening on a regular basis for me is natural.

well for one thing e bay! Take out the items offered by private sellers who are not paying fees and do not pay to promote and what you have left is e bay actually making money!! Because they made it fee free (which i was paying reasonably happy, could always have been a bit lower but what the heck!) they make nothing out of me now. Back when it first started i actually tried promoting one of my few more expensive items and got even less views so no way am i wasting good money again.

but we are not saying that we do not get sales just that the sales regularly happen for me every 3rd week, i get 4/5 and then either 1 or none for the next few weeks and that this seems to be a normal thing but sales do not happen in that manner.

Those are private shoplifters. So they're not buying to sell. Simplez.

If it were to be the case, wouldn’t everyone be affected?
Are they?
I don’t know if they are or, equally, I’ve no idea if eBay do mess about in the background - they make so much of a mess of so many things on the site, that combination could also easily be a speculative reason for ‘groups’ of sales.
But that’s all any of the situations posted can be - speculation.

'If it were to be the case, wouldn’t everyone be affected?'
Well, not sure *everyone* is affected, but I have noticed some odd things happening on my listings. And it only really started a few months ago.
I'd occasionally re-jig my 30 odd listings (all on' good until cancelled'/sold) and regardless of what I did to them or what order I put them up in, the first half or so of my listings didn't get *any* views and the 2nd half all got a small handful of views.
Most of my listings are a pretty eclectic bunch (ranging from a van mirror and some stamps, to some ancient PCBs and connectors.....) but it's always the *first* 10-12 or so listings that never get views registered.
It's a very odd co-incidence anyway........

It wasn't free. When the armed forces pay revue body sat to set your pay every year, they looked at what similar jobs got in civvy street. When they fixed your pay, they deducted a percentage (10% perhaps?) to take into account that you got a pension when you left and civvies didn't. (To be fair, they then added it back on, calling it X-factor, to take into account the risk of getting shot or sent at no notice to thirdworldestan, which risk civvies didn't have.)

eBay and their shareholders - as they rid of the " unwanted" ... they make way for the " global trade leaders".. ie. China ...
Plus - " pay to promote" hoping that ( new) sellers lured in with the " free to sell" will use their hard earned cash to give 100% more visibility...
Conspiracies are not conspiracies if they are factual 😉

Interesting perspective! While eBay's strategies might seem to favor larger players or external markets, it's important to consider that eBay still provides a platform for small businesses and independent sellers worldwide. The 'pay to promote' feature can indeed offer more visibility, but it's also an optional tool for those looking to increase their reach. Ultimately, it’s about finding the right balance between opportunity and competition. What’s your take on eBay’s efforts to stay competitive in the global market?

You're right, it’s hard to know for sure what's happening behind the scenes at eBay. Sometimes, their changes and policies do seem a bit chaotic, which could lead to confusion or speculation about how things are affecting sellers. It's always tough to figure out if it's intentional or just poor management. Ultimately, it's important for sellers to stay aware of these changes and adapt, but like you said, a lot of it can be just speculation until more concrete info comes out.

I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially after being with eBay for so long. The reduction in listings can feel like a huge blow, especially when you're trying to downsize and make ends meet. It’s disappointing to see changes that make it harder for private sellers. I hope eBay listens to feedback from loyal sellers like you and reconsider their policies. In the meantime, exploring other platforms might give you some options, and hopefully, things improve soon. Wishing you the best in finding a better solution for your selling needs

hmmm... I *was* thinking it sounded a little too optimistic and business-speaky!

300 is better then 100 and even that’s too many for private sellers…. Try being a business and see what it takes… literally!

Giving a like because I love your Henry George quote... very apt.

Well I have 268 left to list by tomorrow. Do you think we could get a rollover 😉
