I've been using eBay as a private seller for over 23 years. This new Simple Delivery policy is the final straw. It strips away the flexibility and control we've always had, forces us to use services that often don't work for our area, and ties up payments until delivery is confirmed — even when we’ve done everything right.
I currently have over 50 active listings, and I will now be moving them to Vinted. I never thought I’d leave eBay after all these years, but this policy is anti-seller, especially for long-term, reliable users like me.
eBay: Please reconsider this change. At the very least, give private sellers the choice to use their own postage methods.

Do you not get charged the FVF Fixed fee, Regulatory Operating Fee or the VAT?
11-08-2025 11:27 PM
There is NO business operating fee charged by eBay only the FVF @ 6.9%. + your IF @ 36 pence PI
Neither is there a charge for VAT unless you are registered for VAT.
Why are folks struggling to understand this, It's not advanced turbine engine efficiency in the aero industry, but it may as well be, my lordy lord help me sleep.

Ok I see now. You have just changed this account from private to business so you don’t know how the fees work.
You are misunderstanding a number of things. You should read ‘fees for business sellers’ on the help pages.

Gosh less than the buyer protection fee then of 7% pus 10p that private sellers buyers have to pay which is impacting their sales
maybe everyone on eBay should become a business seller
seems cheaper 😐

Sorry about the cross over, SD is there to annoy private sellers at the very least, and to make ebay a bit more of your cash in the bargain. And NO ebay are not using SD to root out FAKE private sellers, they have an ALG to do that for them. Ebay is watching, and so is HMRC.

Here’s an example from a sale of mine today. It is a DVD, I do everything I can to keep my fees as low as possible with the TRS discount and it still works out at 13.5% inc VAT. I’m not VAT registered so I can’t reclaim that, obviously other sellers will.
Other categories do have a 6.9% FVF fee (actually a few more than I realised) but it will work out higher when the other deductions are added on.

I don’t believe eBay are trying to oust private sellers
they’ve just messed things up a bit as they usually do
im sorry to hear you are not well
for definite eBay is something you can do without worrying about it’s not worth it
take care

Yes I thought 6.9% seemed too good to be true
I’d be happy to pay that as a private seller as I used to and much more plus the theft of charge for postage which eBay provided no service for but took a cut
now the bpf plus authoritarian postage policies which don’t even function as they should might be a good argument to go business even if you’re not one

Well thank you for the info, but did you have to be quite so nasty about it? So much for a supportive forum.
Shan't bother posting again.

It would worry me if people decide to convert to a business account when they aren’t a business. It seems like a dangerous game to play to me I’ve got to be honest. That’s the main reason a few of those posts got my reaction, it isn’t a good move for a genuine private seller to make I promise.

Don’t let one posters post stop you posting
its a free world and there’s plenty of others who are not as combative and harsh

Makes sense in the end phew
fees might go up an other stuff normal people don’t understand or have time for
not saying business sellers aren’t normal people btw 🤣
but it’s all that vat this gsp r eu rules other rules insert other acronyms for laws and regulations or other this that and the other lol so yes a headache if you don’t have to do it

Read and understand them all, and after speaking to a very nice gentleman at CS (Roland) the fee structure could be read and understood by a foetus.
Most people (sellers) just don't get what ebay are doing, come on think. It won't hurt your gray matter.
It all makes perfect sense unless you think ebay is not a business but a game for you all to "play".
It saddens me that a lot of folks on here and the UK as a whole aren't very bright. Shame really.

Ok well I’m pleased that you now see everything so clearly. Until a few days ago you were happily going along on a private account, it is impressive that you are now an expert on business accounts without having ever made a sale on one.

Sorry if came across as harsh but the truth normally hurts.
ebay sellers are miniscule cogs in a massive machine. If one breaks that's ok, it won't stop the machine.
1984 LOL your all in it. Live safe and enjoy what you have left.
At the end of the day!!! It's only money.😉

At last, at least one person has the thinking power to make sense of what I've said all along.
Give that man a cigar.
Goodnight ladies and gents, keep safe and don't be too down hearted, life throws us a curve ball now and again. Learn to dodge and duck, it really helps.

My apologies, I've been on ebay for over 20 years with numerous accounts and held two business accounts with ebay, however it worked a bit different back in the day, now it's more transparent, so will try again.
I've had my fair share of held payments, verifications etc, etc, etc. You can't tell me much how a business works/runs, I used to run a legit "real" business, this is now a paltry hobby, it sort of gives me a laugh to see folks struggle to make a few quid, sad really. Have a go in the real world pal, that will give you a rude awakening for sure, it takes guts and determination, self discipline and belief in yourself.
Think about it? what would you be doing if ebay did not exist? Probably something a lot more constructive and fulfilling than sat in a chair and moaning about something none of you have any control over.
Good night and God bless.

"Ok it's 6.9% final value fee, but eh that's nothing for peace of mind."
The FVF is only 6.9% for certain categories; for some categories it's as high as 12.9%. Then if you don't have a shop (Basic £27pm), there's the listing fee of 30p. Plus various other fees and caveats. There is more information at https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/fees-credits-invoices/fees-business-sellers-activated-managed-pa...

Already read, good fun though.
