Hi all,
I thought I would give this promotion a trial, given that it is a free promotion, what could go wrong?
So I set a daily budget of £8 and well within the timescale for me using up the free allowance.
2 days into the campaign and it is already showing that ebay will charge me £22.37! Furthermore, it is not deducting the amount off the free allowance!
I contacted customer support who could not understand it, so they chased with the relevant team.
I have obviously stopped the campaign at this point as what's the point setting a daily budget if it will be breached anyway?
Ebays team response is that it does not look at the daily budget, but uses it to calculate a weekly figure which it then uses as its budget.
It may also be worth noting that zero sales were achieved during the short campaign. I will apparently need to chase when the invoice comes through to get the payments removed as it should have been covered by the promotion. So all in all, it was a lot of hassle for no gain.
Hoping others may see this and save them some effort, time and money.

All these promotions ebay offer just cost more money to us , doesn't make more sales for us .100% more visibilty but then you have to pay a fee when item sells .What with the buyers protection fee ,ebay is expensive to sell on now ,people want to make money but it is hopeless now .

I got caught as well as Ebay keeps charging me for items which i sold after campaing ended. The best is not to participate, even if they offer you free credits.

Just a note to play devil's advocate on this one but sometimes it may take a couple of days for the charges to go through, causing a little bit of a lag - it's always good to keep this in , find when calculating these costs - just a thought, mate

If thats accurate I sympathise with you. To be honest with you Im very interesred in promoting my listings and sales but after following such things almost religiously for many years I learned the only winner in all of it was Ebay and unless Im really obliged Im not keen on following their suggestions. Its good though to have confirmation from a seller that this option can go horribly wrong. Also just confirms what I said above as being a good strategy.
The only 1 small positive as a business seller over the last 23 years is that Ebay are finally taking to task business sellers that sell with private accounts without paying fees. So long overdue . Also if those people are not paying taxes its absolutely their own issue , risk and choice not anyone elses business but its wrong way to do things.
To be honest Ebay have no interest in such issues just in the bottom line. Words just roll of their tongue but have little corresponxence to their related actions.
BEFORE YOU HATERS PILE BACK IN - IM NOT REALLY INTERESTED. I LOVE EBAY IM JUST WAITING FOR EBAY TO JOIN IN WITH THAT!

I took a similar, but less generous £15 promotion. I set a daily budget of £5 and kept a close eye on it. After 1.5 days it spent £14.66 ex. VAT and so I stopped it.
Hopefully I don't have to jump through hoops to get the credit promotion. I certainly won't be touching this again!

So after speaking to customer service I discovered the issue. The promotional credit is for Promoted Listings General and what I setup was Promoted Listings Priority. So some user error, but this subtle difference is only mentioned in the small print and when you go to setup a new promoted listing campaign the Priority option is the first option. CS did however refund my fees.
