On the top it has   Doulton & co.ltd

Toronto 1,

Telephone  EM.2-2505

On the bottom    Royal Doulton

On the base   what looks like   C5

I would be grateful for any help with history & value

You are in the right place to discuss this. I can't tell you too much about Doulton in Canada aprt from saying that they did have a subsiduary: Royal Doulton Canada Limited; which was wound up in March 2009. The company exported all over the world so it's not surprising to see item by Doulton marked with a Canadian company name.
