hello every one I have read the new postage simple delivery for small private sellers like me and I am very concerned its going to be ebay who decides what courier they think I should use, and even more concerned the buyer will choose .this is hermes evri the worst couriers I have never known, I am selling my antique dolls and send them the quickest and safe with my choosen courier .fully insured and next day delivery which I have done with my items for over 17 yrs. I charge my buyers a set amount but if my box and packing goes over I pay the extra for peace of mind. and the thought of them being sent via hermes evri scares me and I would not trust them with a teddy bear, ebay must let me choose my own courier but I am told I have no choice, antiques no matter what must be sent in a manner they deserve and the simple delivery is not . simple delivery is just that for clothes shoes and not breakable .not for antiques and items of great value, I have had my dolls for over 50 years and simple delivery is not going to happen, I do not want to leave ebay but I will take my antiques some where else, so many great sellers have gone, but ebay does not take the time to ask why. ebay must look after the private sellers like me but I doubt it .the big boys are more important,

You don't have to sell on Ebay.
If you are selling a collection, you could always sell via a 'bricks and mortar' auction house.
Many of them have specialist toy and doll sales.
If you consider yourself more of a dealer - if you are buying dolls to sell on - you could switch to a business account.

I sold an item months ago and it was sent via Royal Mail tracked. I know the item was delivered because the buyer left positive feedback, but the tracking indicates that the item has only been posted but not delivered. Since Ebay does not count positive feedback as proof of delivery, presumably under the new rules I would not have been paid and the buyer would have the item and his money back. Royal Mail and other couriers do not necessarily scan "tracked" items.

Yep, this is another 'glitch' in the new comin' system, and your item in those circumstances, delivered but tracking not updated , fault of a slow system or fault or postal carrier not scanning the item on delivery, anyone's guess, but this would still result in a 14 day hold for that item.
Feedback will not be taken into consideration, as eBay deem feedback can be left in error.

I am assuming we can still exclude services?
At least I hope so. Royal Mail is all that works for me, I cannot sell without it. I am fine continuing to let people choose which Royal Mail service they want (at varying prices) since all work equally well for me but I cannot accommodate a buyer that wants Evri.
Also I assume this service must be somewhat smart about the services it presents to the buyer? different Royal Mail tracked services provide different levels of insurance for example. Same with Evri, I assume... there is also a big lack of cheap services providing more than £150 of insurance in the UK.

I don’t understand how the simple delivery will work, will ebay be the insurer of the package during transit? Does the compensation for loss or damage come from eBay funds or from the seller?
On the help page it says to sellers ‘Items are protected against loss or damage from the moment they are scanned into the carrier's delivery network until they are marked as delivered by the carrier. In the event that a buyer raises a claim for an issue that occurs during transit, you'll not be held responsible’. In that case, why does eBay need to hold onto the buyers payment, if the seller is protected as eBay states, why don’t they release the buyers money as soon as the item is scanned by the courier? Sounds like a good deal for sellers?
If the compensation comes from eBay’s own resources (from accumulated buyers fees presumably) will compensation to the buyer still be easy for the buyer. What if the item is badly packed, in my experience some sellers are extremely optimistic about protective properties of a bit of bubble wrap and brown tape. Will it still be the responsibility of the seller to get the item as described to the buyer, or will that be just for business sellers?

Would eBay allow sellers to state a preferred carrier on a listing?

Yes, according to the Terms & Conditions for Simple Delivery eBay is liable for all loss or damage in transit provided the items are deemed by eBay to be eligible for the service and they are packaged by the seller in accordance with the carrier's terms.
https://pages.ebay.co.uk/shipping/delivery/seller-terms/
12. Liability for Loss or Damage and Compensation.
You remain responsible for any loss or damage to your item until it has been scanned into the carrier’s network. Once your item has been scanned into the carrier’s network and providing you used the Simple Delivery label and are compliant with these Terms and eBay’s Policies, as well as the relevant Carrier Terms, your item will be covered for loss or damage during transit up to the sold item value on the eBay.co.uk site. This means you will retain your sales proceeds in relation to the item sent using the Simple Delivery label. The item will be in transit from the point it has been scanned into the carrier’s network until it has been marked as delivered by the carrier.
5. Eligibility.
a) Item Eligibility.
Not all listings on eBay.co.uk are eligible for the Services. eBay will determine which items are eligible for the Services. eBay reserves the right at any time, in its sole discretion, with or without notice to you, to alter or amend the eligibility requirements for the Services, including, but not limited to, limits on the number, type, category, and/or value of items and/or transactions.
8. Seller Responsibilities.
Upon eBay’s notification that your buyer has paid for an item, you must promptly drop off the item at a carrier drop off point or arrange collection of the item within your stated handling time. You must ensure you package your item in accordance with the guidance provided to you following the sale of your item, as well as in compliance with the guidance provided here and as per the relevant Carrier Terms. You must package all items in accordance with correct weight and dimension limits for the Simple Delivery label provided to you. If you fail to correctly package or securely attach the delivery label to your package, eBay and its third party carriers will have no liability to you, and your item may be subject to delays. eBay’s third party carriers may at their discretion, and in any manner they prefer, destroy or refuse to accept non-compliant items into their network. You must post all items contained in a single order in one package. You must only use the Simple Delivery label provided to you once per package.

To clarify: would eBay allow sellers to state, for the buyer to read and note, a preferred carrier on a listing?

I have not got the option to select Simple Delivery for clothing. It has taken a while but eBay have come back to me with the answer.
I have Postage Polices set up. You cannot currently have postage policies and Simple delivery. It's one or the other. It doesn't seem that you can set it up via postage policies either.
Unless another CS agent has told anyone else any different....

It is because you have " free delivery" on your listings, and Simple Delivery does not offer " free delivery"...

I didn't get the option to use Simple Delivery on clothing either. In fact, reading the boards, I think I have yet to see anyone say that DO have the SD option. So if few people have had the option to use it, how can ebay have sorted out all the issues that will come with it when it becomes mandatory?

Maybe it is a test run for some eligible items and/or sellers?
Not forgetting there are many postcodes excluded.
The terms, from what I can see have not yet been updated for the new roll out of being " compulsory"...
Simple Delivery does not offer a " free post" service so wondered if this was the reason - just to note my original post was a question, it should have said Is it because, not it is... sorry, my mistake.
14-01-2025 2:24 PM
Out of interest what are your "posting policies?"
14-01-2025 3:56 PM
Posting policies was one of the best things i set up. So i have "free post", but also "large letter 1.90" and "Large Letter 1.55" that way every time the post office changes their prices I just change the price on the policy and it does them all. I think it is easier than bulk changes.
I have seen some people mention using "Simples" and I wanted to try it out before trashing the idea totally. From what the CS agent said you will be able to use any service which gives a tracking number, but I'm not sure that makes sense as even 85p gives you a tracking number when bought online, but it it is not tracked.....
Personally I am going to stick with freepost until forced to change. I always like to buy with freepost and don't know why anyone else would be different. that said i have no idea where that leaves the buyer if the item goes missing. Still my problem I guess.

This is what I'm wondering. If RM Collection isn't an option, I'll need to limit it to Evri.

As a buyer in mainly the stamps/postcards category these misnamed buyer protection charges will result in me (and I guess others) dramatically reducing my purchases.
However I have a query about Evri and simple delivery. Although not interested in buying I looked through the clothing category and found a private seller whose only shipping choice was Evri – the price quoted for the article was £2.94 for tracked. As I live in Northern Ireland I clicked on ‘see details’ entered my BT postcode and the price remained at £2.94. (tried also with a Shetland Islands postcode and the price remained the same)
Went onto the Evri website and when I entered my postcode £2.74 was added to the price as a ‘Location charge’. I expected this as I know that Evri adds this charge for some locations.
My query is if I purchase such an item will I have to pay the location charge at checkout even though it wasn’t specified on the main item page? Or will it be down to the seller to cover this when they try to get the label?
