I am selling small jewellery items as a private seller and specifying a postage amount when listing. Then when dispatching I am using large letter postage stamps purchased from Royal Mail. Can I still do this? if so, what do I need to do at the listing stage to avoid being trapped in the new Bay postage system? Thanks you

Don't fill in any details about the parcel, weight etc.. Then you should be able to put what you want for the postage. Regarding ebay's new "simple delivery" scheme you can opt out of it during the listing process. Look for the options menu icon on the right of the postage section.

This would change everything if correct. I am about to quit e-bay after 20 years as I don't have a printer or scales and I don't know how selling multiple items would work. I often have listings end at weekends so can have up to 10 items to post. Do I have to use a locker for every single parcel? I don't like Evri (only Royal Mail take care of my china items). Can I really opt out of the 'simple delivery' altogether? If not I'm probably off to Etsy 😞

If your items weigh less than 100g and £10 then you have the option to not use Simple Delivery.
If your items weigh more than 20Kg and exceed £750 then it doesn't apply and is outside the Simple Delivery scheme.
Anything in-between will be Simple Delivery only in a few days (15th April I believe).

100g is letter weight? I sell pottery, so I am stuck, simple delivery really will not work for me, such a shame. Leaving ebay after 20 years. Hope they notice this 'innovation' has been counter productive

What **peaseblossom** wrote was correct at the time however Simple Delivery has changed a lot since then and there may be more to come.
Basically current exclusions from Simple Delivery:
Any item £10 or under AND weighing less than 100g that fits as a letter
Any item over 20kg
Any package over 61x46x46cm Royal Mail
For an Evri parcel shop drop-off – no side exceeds 120cm in length, the volume is no more than 245cm. To calculate the volume, add together the two shortest sides and multiply it by two, and then add the length
Any item over £750 (Buy It Now price, auction starting price or reserve price)

You can opt out of using Evri so only Royal Mail is available, without a printer you need a smartphone or tablet to get a QR code that you can take to the Post Office for them to print your labels

It's a really bad idea and to be honest I'd have excluded the entire scheme from established and trusted sellers (I can almost see the day where eBay will have a UK distribution centre like in the US where they check and forward on items to buyers).
I only sell very occasionally but am not bothering now; it's too much faff and I've had it before where I've had pricing from the RM website - gone to said Post Office and a totally different cost (either cheaper or more expensive) and I can see exactly the same happening with this scheme with people being turned away at the Post Office with their Simple Delivery labels or having no option but to pay twice in postage costs.

And how will they know if you pick an exemption when it’s not….
unless you can’t buy your own postage outside ebay anymore as you can currently with custom iyswim

What happens if I list an item for £8 and it sells for £10+?? I only sell the occasional postcard from my collections, but now and then a postcard will sell for more than £10. I use small board-backed envelopes and some of my sold items go to the US. I do not wish to use the so-called Simple Delivery.

This includes letter-sized items that meet both of the following criteria: they weigh up to 100 grams and are priced at a maximum of £10, excluding buyer fees.

not clear
you could read this as “listed at”
only way to find out is see
your original listing will be with custom delivery ok
if it sells for more than 10 will eBay override it with simple delivery? Who knows
as for international sales simple delivery doesn’t apply BUT you might get a label for the first part of the journey IF you have global shipping programme enabled and it sells for more than 10 ..again here I’m not certain if this can happen if you listed with custom

Thank you. However, I have looked at those first two answers on the weekly community chat and see that there is not a definitive answer yet. It all seems very vague. I am hoping to keep to my custom postage and not slip into Simple Delivery.

Ebay are considering going into partnership with etsy as both companies have been struggling ,this was an article in the press at around christmas

EBay can’t even sort out its own postage system
can’t see them sorting out a merger any time soon 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I predict it will be another disaster

I predict a riot 😂😂

Maybe we can all meet at a local PO with our Simple Delivery labels and have a melt down together? I'll bring some trifles and we can have a food fight... ?
