Just sold an item and will be posting on 29th July (2 day handling). eBay informs buyer that the estimated delivery date is 28th to 31st July. Mmmmmm - I don’t think they will receive it one day before I post it!!!
customers must get really confused - just as I am….

If you post on Monday they should get it well within the time frame "predicted". Even if you posted on 29th they should get it 31st.
I ordered something yesterday and it arrived today lunchtime. @minikeepsakes

Recently as a private seller, 2 day handling and I have been asked on various occasions to post it on a Sunday when RMail PO are closed!

For what it may matter some Post Offices actually open on Sunday! "The Post Office is open when we are here!". Wouldn't people support such a user friendly business!
Of course Royal Mail do not usually deliver on Sundays so anything processed by a Post Office will not start its journey on that day. @andrewmg400

My post office does not even open on a Saturday let alone a Sunday!

This has been broken for YEARS, but eBay insists it's "working as intended".

The trouble is, buyers see one delivery estimate (often impossible) on the listing, and a different estimate (more realistic) AFTER purchase. If that's not going to antagonise buyers, I don't know what is.
This has been the cause of a few sale cancellations now already, and quite a few delivery related messages intercepted by eBay - I've had a few of these before shipping, sometimes immediately after purchase :
"Your buyer has reached out about their order. Since you used Simple Delivery, we'll work with your buyer directly on any delivery related questions."
In fact, another one today.
I'm not at all keen on the idea that some messages from buyers are intercepted. I normally send a courtesy message to tell the buyer when their item will be dispatched, I don't even know if they get them any more.
