I have spent the morning trying to post an item I have sold. I have no printer and am unable to use the new eBay app on my phone as the phone is to old! So I cycled to the local village post office to be told that they are not accepting eBay parcels. I have an iPad where I can use the eBay app and pressed button for a QR code it came up with Evri code QR. I scrolled down hoping to see Royal Mail QR code but to no avail. I then took a photo of the QR code on my phone. Not being able to pop to the local post office I then had to get in my car drive 3 miles look for a parking space, pay for a parking ticket and walk to a mini market to post the parcel with Evri when I had listed Royal Mail. This Simple Delivery is anything but simple! It discriminates against people living in rural areas, those with no printers and is not helping to keep local post offices in business. PLESE DO A U TURN - IT ISNT FIT FOR PURPOSE!!!! I was quite happy wrapping and addressing my parcels and paying postage to my local post office.

I've been on both sides of the private/business seller thing. There's a bit of a culture war between the two, but seriously, private or business, you're still a victim of eBay's ill-thought-out rules and fees. I was also mis-sold the business account. The recurring listing fees were crippling, and as its been said, they will not allow you to downgrade. I refuse to believe their system won't allow it. Somewhere, the decision has been made to disallow it.
Maybe it's different in the US, but eBay, in the UK, you simply don't have the traffic to warrant such high fees. On the biggest selling platform, I can list and grow as much as I like. Ebay makes growth so difficult.
Back to the discussion topic, yes, Simple Delivery is rubbish. It seems so ill-conceived. It didn't seem to account for small and light items, or the other end of the spectrum. There are now some exemptions, but the list lacks any clear logic.
Since SD is now mandatory, sales have stopped as eBay seems to have updated existing listings so that the buyer must now pay £2.70 (plus the bogus BPF.) So I went to bulk edit it so that I'd pay (free postage), and it can't be done. I'm going to have to edit each listing individually.
I say again, eBay, you make growth so difficult, which is why you're lagging far behind the main selling site beginning with 'A'.

Thanks for the info, and yes it's very helpful, or not, in all our cases it would seem..
They've really pulled a Homer with this one haven't they?
As things stand, I'm just going to wait and see what happens when I finally make a sale and decide how to proceed from there.
Thanks again.

Hi Linda, I think it is absolute rubbish too! Do you know (probably you do) when you get to the posting section of putting your listing up on Ebay, if you only tick for Royal mail and untick for Evri, that will ensure you only get Royal mail codes/labels. If you tick both, Ebay choose which one for you, when the customer buys, not even the customer choice. As a customer and a seller sometimes in a very rural area, I find other aspects annoying. Evri does not really operate in this area of Scottish highlands, a parcel gets to Inverness depot, then the tracking stops, as it waits for a local agent, often the Amazon man, sometimes a man with a van who works for various couriers part time, to come out to the village. It might take 3 days to get to Inverness, then 10 days wait for someone to pick up parcels and bring them out to villages. Royal mail is daily delivery! I cannot tell from private seller now, which way they are sending something, as with simple delivery, it just says standard delivery or sometimes express delivery. I have to contact the seller to ask which way and if not Royal Mail, can they send it that way please, before I order. Business sellers still list posting options the old way and tell you upfront how they are posting. If I want to buy a dress, for instance, off someone who has it but not worn, for whatever reason, and this is very good ethically, I always have to approach them about postage first. Even Hobbs, who send by Royal mail at Christmas, came in 2 days, have sent my latest parcel via Evri, it has sat with the tracking stuck in Inverness for over a week now, quite usual, waiting for someone to bring it out, when there are enough parcels to go, presumably? I am sure these couriers work fine in a town, but not in rural areas. We also have no Evri collection, so I have to pay to post parcels back to the Evri return address, which is crazy, even with a free return Evri label supplied.

Seems simple delivery is a pain the a** for a lot of people, and I agree,I been caught out a few times because the shipping price doesn’t match the item at all,and thinking using the simple method option button will take you to options when it doesn’t and just does it,then when item sells you can’t cancel or change the label it seems,so you know if it’s posted you are going to get charged £4.15 Royal Mail on a £3.50 sale, and the buyer has already payed £2.25 large letter postage (when it’s obviously not a large letter item) .
when yodel is £2.69 or evri £2.94.
sonthe seller actually looses money and gives the item away for free, while Royal Mail make £ 6.50 off everyone 400 gram tiny box..if that’s not a con I don’t what is !?
simple delivery is absolutely awful and more stress than what it’s worth !!!

I’m sick of this simple service and as a seller I find it frustrating and I loathe Evri and sell high end things Royal Mail is my choice but it’s so hard to use this .
as a buyer it’s really not fit parcels are ALWAYS late and it’s not the sellers fault .
EBay seem to show contempt for their this customers by using and forcing us to use this .
they won’t listen but I just want choice back to not use couriers who in the past have awful reputation

You choose not to use Evri as a courier on your listings. Just deselect it here:

It is ridiculous that; not only did it force me to use Evri after selecting Royal Mail and Evri as options, but when the buyer made two orders by mistake, their message was not shown to me, only a prompt saying that because I had used Simple Delivery (like I had a choice!) that eBay would handle delivery questions!
The buyer was prevented from telling the seller that they would like to cancel their mistakenly placed order.
