Simple Delivery price increase.

Ebay appear to have announced that from the 1st of September the price of Simple Delivery postage labels for items sent by Royal Mail will be increasing quite dramatically. However the message i read also states that this will apply to sellers who opt-out of using alternative couriers. Does this mean that if you don't opt-out the prices will remain in line with what Royal Mail would normally charge customers for their labels, or will the extra fees still apply no matter what you do?

It seems that the increases will only apply if RM is the only carrier a seller chooses.

The latest price hikes are here

Simple Delivery pricing changes from 1 September - UK eBay Community

Luckily, medium parcels only. I'd hate to see the large letter postage cost double. It's practically impossible to sell a vinyl record or old comic with SD already.

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

That's just wonderful!  I mean force sellers into a corner with Not-So-Simple-Delivery then once trapped like a spider in a web, put up the prices.

The exorbitant price increase from 1 Sept for Medium parcels is nearly double!

Most of my stuff is large letter and small parcel (when I sell - too afeared at the mo - cluck cluck!), but I very much doubt that they will stay the same in the near future.

It just gets worse every time I lurk on these boards.  Perhaps I should go and mow the lawn instead?

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

It's only the 0-1Kg Medium Parcel that's changing, and I wonder if the original prices were a mistake anyway. The cheapest Tracked 48 MP price direct from RM is already £5.15...

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

Yup, you got it! If the terms/conditions and categories opted in or out can change every 5 weeks or so there's absolutely there's no reason why the prices can't do the same. And as an UberEbay worker-bee it's your job to keep yourself informed of all the latest developments, changes in procedures and occasional concessions.

Thank goodness everybody still has a choice. We can choose whether to do Simple or opt out of selling. 😉

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

Hardly "exorbitant" when it'll only be the standard RM price, which is what we'd be paying without Simple Delivery anyway.

Given e-Bay's tenancy to estimate Medium Parcels as Small ones how often it gets charged remains to be seen.

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

Wonder how many < 1 kg Medium parcels there will be?  A box alone isn't that lightweight.  Maybe ok for mailing bags though.

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

I have a post office 200 yards away. Nearest Evri is probably 5 or 6 times that. My experiences of receiving packages via Evri isn't great so I select only RM. Looks like I picked the wrong time to have a clear out.

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

All very confusing indeed.

Using the RM website:-

With RM postage bought on line a small  up to 2kg parcel  sent 24hr tracked £4.29

   "                                               "                                                 "                sent 48hr tracked £3.45.

With RM postage bought on line a medium parcel up to 2kg  sent 24hr tracked £6.05

  "                                              "                                                    "                    sent 48hr tracked £5.15

BUT ebay doesn't mention the time scales or the cost if the parcel is more than 1kg.

So, can we only send things 48hr tracked??? and what if it's more than 1kg.

Also the buyer protection fee will also go up with the extra charge.

I wonder how much eBay will charge for a large letter, up to 1kg 48hr tracked is £2.70

Once again job half done.

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

If eBay want us to use Evri they need to be aware that they don't handle large letters...

From Evri site Fits through a letterbox, max 35cm length, 23cm width, 1 - 3cm depth. Min weight 250g.
Tracking included No proof of delivery or cover and costs £3.20
But have you seen what is not covered in their T's & C's hardly anything.

Excluded from compensation a list as long as your arm!!!

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

Simple Delivery prices aren't the same as Royal Mails because e-Bay say they have negotiated "Special Rates."  The 0-1kg Medium parcel has always been a bit odd as Royal Mail charge the same for anything upto 2kg.  Royal Mail prices are also less if bought on-line rather than at a Post Office.

The full Simple Delivery rate table can be found here:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/sellercentre/postage/simple-delivery?targetgroup=C2C

Things costing over £100 are slightly more expensive to send.

If you use the e-Bay Recommended size/weight you don't have to think about such things and if it's wrong they still honour the price.

The Buyer chooses "Standard" delivery, which is Tracked 48, or "Express" which is Tracked 24.  They choose if cost or speed is more important to them rather than the Seller.

The Buyer Protection Fee doesn't apply to postage unless you are offering Free postage.

With Simple Delivery compensation/protection against loss or damage in transit is provided by eBay not the carrier.  Therefore, the list of items excluded from compensation by Evri doesn't apply.

They don't, otherwise I would use them to save having to cart golf clubs to the Evri Shop.

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

I can only use Royal Mail. So… stuck?
Honestly, I am so bewildered by all the changes. I get irritated, then panicked when trying to list. All the variables now and some backtracking on earlier changes seem to have lightly fried my brain. I took all 150 listings off around March, then gradually relisted just a few…took me a week to list 2 items! Sold 3 or 4 items in 6 months! It really wasn’t worth relisting individual magazines/old books etc. as the huge mark up on buyer fees/weird postage additions etc have obviously put buyers off completely.
So now, for SOME large letter postage, you can opt out Simple Delivery, but SOME you can’t?
If I can only use RM, I pay more for a 1kg medium parcel simply because I can’t use Evri?

Re: Simple Delivery price increase.

The mark up for the Buyer Protection fee is not exactly 'huge' - on an £8 item, it is 66p, on a £60 item, it's £3, about 5%.

It looks as if a lot of items which are under 100g, under £20 and LL size are now eligible for custom postage if that is your choice.  Have a look at your listings to see what can be changed.

The price increase for sellers who choose to only use RM (which includes me) only applies to medium parcels.  Small parcels up to 2kg are not affected so it's important to make sure you get the sizing right.  Sellers have always had to do this.  I have certainly been caught out with the odd item which I was convinced would be a small parcel which, when adequately packaged, was a medium.  The price for a medium parcel, using RM Tracked 48 has risen to £5.15, exactly the same price you would pay if you bought that service online so you are not paying more than you would if you bought direct from RM.
