Simple Delivery on a £4 ITEM

I’ve been charged £2.94 to send an item that’s only worth £4. Normally, I’d send something like this as a large letter for £1.55. Why is this more expensive “Simple Delivery” option even necessary?

It’s really frustrating. I don’t care whether it’s tracked or not—as long as the buyer receives it, that’s all that matters to me. The item is literally just an AirPods Pro case.

eBay automatically deducted the £2.94 from my balance, but when I check the “Postage Labels” tab, there’s no label available.

I’m honestly not a fan of this “Simple Delivery” system at all. We shouldn’t be forced to use tracked postage for cheap, low-risk items. That’s exactly why Royal Mail offers 1st and 2nd Class options without tracking or signatures. This whole setup feels unnecessary and has turned a simple task into a frustrating one.

To make things worse, I can’t even mark the order as dispatched—check the screenshots I’ve attached. Since I’m not using the provided label, it seems to lock that option, which might delay the payment even further—even if the buyer already receives the item. How does that make sense?

If I choose not to use the label eBay issued, will they refund me automatically? I plan to send this as a standard large letter regardless. Can anyone advise what to do here?

Simple Delivery on a £4 ITEM

If you've bought your own label to add that tracking number you still need to generate the original prepaid label and then go to the More Actions dropdown menu to add the new tracking or via View Order Details > Postage > Track Package > dropdown arrow.    That needs to be done on a desktop browser.

After that you can cancel the original label here:

Simple Delivery on a £4 ITEM

Even worse, there’s a current glitch on the mobile app: if you edit your listing description, it automatically switches your chosen postage method to Simple Delivery without warning. I only realised this after I’d already sold two items. All I did was add extra photos to a listing, and it changed my shipping to Simple Delivery behind the scenes. That’s not a mistake—that’s robbery.
