Hi, You seem to be selling similar lots like myself {stamps} and like you I have always used my own stamps to post them, worked perfectly for years, never had any problems, and bonus for me it was the easiest way because having a post office and post box end of my street.
I think with these changes, for me and maybe yourself the good times have long gone.
In future to try and sell anything we will have to jump through so many loops that it will not worth the effort.
Just been looking at the reply's about your question, and it seems eBay are slowly with these changes telling us to go? Or am I missing something?

@jckl1957 Your belt is listed at over £10 with RM48 custom (not SD). Has SD been mandatory on anything you've listed? It's not (yet) mandatory for me.
"it became clear that the policy makers at Ebay did not understand what a large letter was".
If you think that is the main issue (and I'm not saying you are wrong) then there is little point us going back and forth about it!
I fully believed that your listings were showing postage as you described, even before the picture. As I said If "it's not working that way, that's up to ebay."
Maybe we will wake up tomorrow and SD/rates will have been applied to these (your) active listings. Or maybe the words on the page I linked will say "letter or large letter", or perhaps SD will have just been a .... dream.

my listings were put over to SD but i am still managing to change it to custom. How long that continues is how long i will keep selling on here. Most of them are standard small parcels with no exemptions.

As you are not (yet) on mandatory SD, you can change them as you've said. Ebay's communication heavily implies all private sellers will eventually have mandatory SD, (except for items with a particular size/weight, under £10.01 and in particular stated categories ).
[It's unclear to me when e.g.
-an item allowed to be sold by ebay but is on the SD "Restricted or prohibited items" list or
-an item is prohibited or not covered for loss/damage by RM/Evri standard conditions; but ebay deems in mandatory to use SD,
... what is supposed to happen.]
SD t&c and options will no doubt evolve, e.g. some size bands/prices are due to change on the 20th, I understand.

So now its the 20th May commandment cannot Waite, still remember 15th April when the new changes they introduced kicked in.
Can anyone please explain what is going on with eBay these days?
As a Private Seller trying to sell cheap small items, its now ridiculous, "If its this you do that" but "If its that you do this" What are they doing to us? when things were so much better before.
Probably lot easier to split the atom than selling on here with all the new commandments they keep coming up with.

No comment to the other points,
and without knowing all the details - I thought the process was sellers only refund after receiving the item back.

I help a relative at times with their Private eBay listings & they are finding that SD is not working as BPF is putting off the usual views and sales.
Sellers should be able to check the returned item first & refund if the item is in the same condition as when sold.
Years ago, I remember refunding a Buyer before the item was returned & eBay sent me a message asking how my sale had gone. I answered that I had not received the item back, so I was not happy. The CS Agent said they would contact the Buyer, I thought no more about it until 3 days later the item arrived back with me.
I've always found eBay's CS in Dublin helpful (contact in the mornings).
It is unusual eBay CS have not contacted you, I always use messaging (as I like a copy of any discussions) & if the automative system replies I keep answering I want to speak to an Agent & this get me through.
