Cancellation of postage

I used the new simple postage option that estimates the cost of postage for similar items.   I received an order for a tent and when l went to print the label l noticed that the postage cost had gone up from £8 to £13.63!    I was still prepared to pay the difference as l had been offered a good price for the tent.

When l went to print a postage label from parcelforce using the eBay simple postage option the system said unable to process order!  I then tried again and was able to print a label for up to 20Kg.

When l weighed my tent l realised that 20kg was the weight of the tent with no packaging! Obviously this wouldn't ship as the final weight would be well over 20Kg.

I then looked at my order details and noticed that l had been charged for two labels and had already printed the option.

I found out how to request a cancellation of the labels from Order Action Postage.

The first label was voided and the second one didn't have this option but l managed to cancel it using the problem with postcode option.  I now need to wait until l get a refund.  PayPal have already taken £27.  I phoned Parcelforce and they can't do anything about it as the label hasn't been used.   I have had to cancel the order for the tent because of the postage difficulties and am currently sitting in limbo wondering will l get a refund?  Labels not used but one was printed.  I would say that the new simpler postage option cost me a sale and left me £27 out of pocket and having to wait for upto 2 weeks for a refund:(

Re: Cancellation of postage

Hi hut307, thanks for your post.

If the label was generated with Simple Delivery, and it was not used, then you don't need to do anything as all unused labels with Simple Delivery are automatically voided and refunded after 30 days. If you already, cancelled the other label, and it was purchased through eBay, you should receive a refund within 14 days.

Thank you,

Marco

Re: Cancellation of postage

Hi marco@ebay

Can I just check something please in your reply above. You say cancelled labels (not simple delivery) should be refunded within 14 days. Is this definitely correct?

I have a parcel label I cancelled on another account on 1st April. The email I got from ebay re this cancellation was a bit ambiguous as it reads (see below).  As of today 24th April I have heard nothing more nor had any refund.

You submitted a request to cancel a postage label. Royal Mail is processing your request now. If your request is approved, the label cost, along with any additional options purchased, will be credited to your original payment method within 15 days

Re: Cancellation of postage

Hello,

I just cancelled the labels under actions delivery. I can't remember all
the details. The first one l was told hadn't been processed. So l ordered
again and then l found out that l had been charged twice. I used the ebay
system, think it was simple delivery. Neither labels were usable, as the
weight of the tent was over 20kg. I had to cancel my order on ebay as it
wouldn't have posted. Thank you in advance for your help.

I am £27.26 out of pocket for parcel force labels l didn't use, that were
ordered through ebay

Kind regards

Martin

Re: Cancellation of postage

Hi knit-in-styles, thanks for your reply.

Yes, so you have 14 days to cancel, and then 14 days to get a refund as per our policy here. If you've processed your label cancellation, then you should get the refund in the next 2 weeks.

Hope this helps,

Marco

Re: Cancellation of postage

marco@ebay Sorry just bumping this as the tag didn't work in my previous post. As I said in my post I cancelled the label on 1st April, got the email from eBay re the cancellation and that is now 26 days ago and still no refund. I know it is only £3.25 but that is not the point.

Re: Cancellation of postage

I believe it's up to 21 days not 14.

The message you received says they received your request and if the ' request is approved'  then a refund is made.

No idea how long this  ' approval' takes,  but it's from that time that a refund is made anytime between 7 - 21 days.

I'm sure yours, will be with you soon.  The weekend may hold proceedings that little bit longer! 🤔

Re: Cancellation of postage

Although this suggestion may well have come too late to be of any use with the transaction that prompted you to start this thread, if you decide to list any further large and/or bulky items for sale on eBay, then list them as Collection In Person Only with no alternative option available.  That way the onus is on the buyer to collect the item from you, rather than on you to post the item to the buyer.  So long as the buyer brings along the QR code and/or the collection code provided by eBay, you can then use this information to mark the item up as having been collected, in which case eBay should release the payment to you and you won't have to faff about with eBay's badly thought out Simple Delivery, which, to be honest, they should never have implemented as the old system worked well enough and allowed sellers a greater degree of flexibility with regards to selecting the courier they wanted to despatch the item with, their asking price for postage and estimated despatch times, not to mention the fact that they also used to be able to offer buyers of multiple items a combined postage discount, something that eBay have recently done away with.  When compared with the old system I really cannot see the advantages of eBay Simple Delivery, as it would only appear to be causing more aggravation that it's worth...

Re: Cancellation of postage

Hi knit-in-styles, thanks for your reply.

It normally doesn't take that long, if you want, you can confirm the item number of the item that you got the label for originally, and I can take a look no problem.

Thank you,

Marco
