1) ID is for the prevention/reduction of fraud. You say you don't agree with it but you agreed with it when you agreed to eBay's terms and conditions when creating your account. If someone is selling off their own unwanted goods they have nothing to worry about. It's just those who are buying and selling for profit/as a side hustle and aren't completing tax returns who rightly will have something to worry about.
It's likely they've flagged you up and asked for ID because even though you've been a member since 2012, you've only recently been listing and selling things and those are £200 items.
That sort of activity could indicate some sort of fraud, such as your account was hijacked and someone is using the account to sell high value items. So they've asked for ID to make sure it's the account holder who is listing and selling those items.
