Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

Hello everyone

here's my problem

I have been with eBay for seven happy years no issues right details bank etc

I come to sell a few item I was given £3000 monthly selling allowance

so I placed two items to sell I'm disabled so need the money to help with somethings my first sell was a nightmare refunded lady and place item up for sale along with another item which sold £750 leaving me £645.21 after fees due to item watch monies was on hold for two weeks which is fine to protect everyone on the day money was due to be paid out my account was restricted I had to provide id which I did passport and driving license all correct tallies with my account I was then asked for a paper bank statement picture again all correct all this was done a month ago I have now been put on permanent restriction and lost my money permanently as they say that's the uk rules they say I'm suddenly a risk I have spoken to them they confirm all my details are correct I'm even on uk electrol roll at my address my history is good to say I'm not who I am after providing correct information is frustrating I've sold a item in good faith that eBay will pay

Now how does eBay get to keep this money where does it go and please can I ask the community how I go to getting my money back? I have read the policy it doesn't say can I sue eBay uk

the customer has the item no complaints sure eBay should be restricting account and check before item is sold therefore It would be beneficial to everyone

kind regards a sadly unhappy customer

now I don't kn

Ebay can't keep your money permanently, usually they say something like 170 days.

You might want to have a chat with Citizens Advice.

Papso22 thanks for your support

I can only go on what was said to me I asked for this in writing as the eBay agent was being rude and aggressive he refused

if they do keep it what do I do seems unfair it is my understanding that they keep the funds to check out the seller details all of which has been provided so as I was told permanent hold no access to funds

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

I would request a call back from Customer Service. Try first thing in the morning! You often get the `Dublin team then!
Prepare for the conversation...perhaps write some notes to ensure you cover all points. Remember that eBay has certain rules/regulations that they have to follow. Stay calm and polite no matter what. If the person can't give you a clear explanation of what's happening, ask for further contact from someone who can explain.

Keep a record of what you're told.

ebay can't keep your money without good cause but perhaps there are certain regulations regarding large sales from new/recent sellers. If you've been a member for a long time but not really been a seller, you'll probably be treated as a new seller.

If you've had all your identity details received, there's probably a series of checks/confirmations they still need to perform.
These checks/delays are unfortunate but often have to done by law.
What should happen, is that you're kept informed of the process and have explanations that you understand.

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

Sounds like you did not provide the ID they required in the manner they require it

You need to keep contacting eBay to find out which piece of ID has not been accepted

Then supply ALL the information they have requested, in the manner it is required

Does your name on all ID documents match your name as written on your account details (eg Pamela NOT Pam), if so change your name on your account details so it matched your ID documents **exactly**

You need to speak to CS and find out what ID they need to remove the permanent suspension

don't give up

Ensure that all documents you submitted to eBay are clear - not out of focus or missing corners of the document

customer services should be able to tell you which ID documents they still need from you.

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

Hollyh321 thank you

I have attempted every avenue you suggest CS confirm my information provided is correct there just doesn't seem to be a solution or a reason other than I'm a risk but this is what has been said by a CS but won't put it in writing just seems to keep going round in circles with no answers to what I need to do in order to be able to receive my money

so my question is what do I need to do now they are refusing to pay me

kind regards

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

Have you actually tried to withdraw funds?

They aren't send automatically to your bank anymore

You have to withdraw them

Sounds like you are on a permanent selling ban

This doesn't automaticlly mean you can't get your funds

Try withdrawing them? beware, the withdraw system is glitchy and you may need to start a new thread to see how to withdraw them (or read one of the many threads on this subject)

adding to the advice already given -

"the customer has the item no complaints"

Indeed eBay themselves left you automatic positive feedback.

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

It's all very perplexing.
It seems like you've done nothing wrong and you've provided all the correct ID information in the right way.
it also seems like the C.S. operatives can only tell you what's recorded on your account and can't discuss any further.

When you go to your Funds page, can you get to your Balance? There should be an option you can Withdraw.

If not, I would request a call back first thing tomorrow morning and confirm that they've received everything they requested and are still investigating. Try to get a time scale for their process. Try to get someone with more authority to check your full account to call you back.

If all else fails, it may be worth contacting Citizen's Advice to see if they can discover how to proceed. For example a local solicitor who provides a free advice session. The Which? report may do a queries session as they have a Finances Section.

Hopefully it may just be a case of time, while they treble check the info you've provided.

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

There IS a "new seller" hold of up to 21 days - this is normal and is applied to all new or infrequent sellers

Has 21 days passed since you sold the items?

If not, wait until then, and then try to withdraw again

it may be as simple as that, or there may be other issues

Try asking for a callback at 8am, as you will be called by someone from Dublin, and they are the most helpful and efficient, and can actually DO stuff!

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

Just another thought...could it actually be an issue with the funds from a buyer that's causing the delay? Obviously C.S. wouldn't be able to tell you that or discuss.
There's so much fraud and money laundering going on that they probably have to do a gazillion checks!

I also saw this...

When eBay places a hold on your funds, it's usually to ensure a safe marketplace for buyers and sellers. Holds can be placed for a number of reasons, including:

  • New or infrequent sellers: eBay may place a hold to confirm that items have been delivered and to help sellers build a history. Holds for new sellers can last up to 21 days.

  • High-priced items: eBay may place a hold on high-priced items or unusual selling patterns to ensure buyers have no issues with the order.

  • Open cases or disputes: eBay may place a hold if there's an open case or dispute on a transaction.

  • Account restrictions or suspensions: eBay may place a hold if your account is restricted or suspended.

  • Authenticity Guarantee: eBay may place a hold for up to 30 days to confirm the authenticity of items sold with eBay's Authenticity Guarantee.

eBay will notify you by email if your funds are placed on hold. In most cases, holds are resolved within 30 days. To help receive funds faster, you can add tracking information to your order.

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

Have eBay asked you for your National Insurance Number (due to the amount your items sold for?)

eBay state in their T&Cs they can hold funds permanently until you provide legally required information - which would include your NI number

Make sure this has been added if eBay have requested it

Re: Permanent restrictions eBay keep money permanently

It's a fairly new thing and eBay leave positive feeback as - “This seller successfully completed an order.” if -

The buyer does not leave feedback within 7 days of the estimated delivery date

The buyer does not report an issue with their transaction

The seller has received 10 feedback or less.
