Permanent Restriction with No Reason & Held Funds — Need Urgent Help

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out because I’ve been permanently restricted on eBay shortly after selling my very first item — which was fully delivered and confirmed. I’ve received no clear reason for the restriction, and I wasn’t even offered the chance to appeal.

Now I have funds from that sale currently processing and set to clear soon, but due to the restriction, I can’t withdraw them, spend them, or use them in any way. I’ve contacted eBay support multiple times and was told that:

They cannot give me a reason for the restriction.

There’s no way to appeal.

I cannot access or spend the funds once they’re cleared.

I’m even blocked from making a return request on an item I purchased.

To make matters worse, I’ve now been locked out of live chat with eBay support, so I have no way to escalate or get further assistance.

All I want is access to my own money from a completed and successful sale. I believe this is deeply unfair and potentially a violation of my consumer rights under UK law. If this isn’t resolved, I plan to file complaints with the Financial Ombudsman Service and Trading Standards.

If anyone has been through this or knows how I can escalate this beyond regular support, please let me know. Any help would be truly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There are a lot of similar posts to yours - use the search function to find them.

Common factors seem to be that the seller is not given a clear reason for the restriction and Customer Services are not able to discuss it with you.

Ebay is allowed to hold your funds for up to 180 days so you will get paid eventually.

I am not a lawyer, but I don't think 'consumer rights' will come into play here especially as you tacitly agree to all of the terms and conditions in the User Agreement when you buy or sell on Ebay.
