i HAVE USED EBAY FOR AROUND 30 YEARS around 20 years with my current details and previously in the early days around 10 years with different sign in name which incorporated a house name from which we moved!
Anyway as from now I have ceased to use Ebay as I do not agree with the NEW!! payment system
Nothing leaves my premises until it is paid for, thats a similar system that the retail trade uses isnt it??
One does not enter a shop and select what they wish to purchase, tell the shopkeaper I will send you the payment in a few days time and leave with the goods.
I have spoken to other eBay users I know all of whom are totally against this system and will not be selling!
EBAY you need to wake up quickly and sort out this matter!

I recon if eBay gave us all a System Restore option like Windows 11 does that allows us users to undo harmful changes eBay have made and restore eBay to an earlier time EVERYONE WOULD BE USING IT !

Ebay are copying Vinted's business model so probably not much point in sellers going there.

I want to know where the money is for the 4/5 days after the buyer pays. I have strong suspicions it is in an Ebay holding account earning them a fortune in interest. It's a really dumb process.

Thats what I Thought, I suppose though that as private sellers
without any selling fees , I think it might be worth seeing how
the system works

The new system is SHOCKING and will never work well for the majority of ordinary people who want a straight forward and quick way to sell their surplus items online and generate quick money to buy other stuff on eBay (or other sites) as well as supplement their low incomes... This will only drive away more private sellers from selling on eBay and less people will visit eBay to buy here as a result.

What EBay are doing is illegal. The money isn't theirs it is the sellers money. If I sell a car at a car auction the money paid is mine, not the car auction house. If they withhold it from me that is theft.

with promotion, yeah, totals out of 28% ....

Actually and not to split hairs ebay are holding the buyers funds as the item sold by the seller is still under ownership until it is " successfully delivered" to its new owner. The " ownership" of said item is actually in eBays terms and conditions but forget where I read it.. could be the FAQ, unsure, but it " gets a mention" 😉

Sorry but you are wrong. The contract is between the seller and buyer. Once the goods are paid for they become the property of the seller. That is part of the contract. I should know as I have been working as a solicitor for trading standards for the last 10 years.

Do you mean once the goods are paid for they become the property of the buyer?
The primary contract is between the seller and buyer but eBay are acting as a third party...
Please read their new terms and conditions on holding funds from private seller accounts, then read their terms on Simple Delivery ... it is all in there...
Ownership of the item is still the sellers until it is considered " successfully delivered"
Ebay state they are holding private sellers funds ie. not immediately releasing funds which should be rightfully theirs due to the sale... I agree with you on that... however in their terms and conditions they state that the item still belongs to the seller, so it is not " sold" until delivered to the new buyer, it is not a completed transaction ... therefore the "buyers" funds is actually what they are holding, as a third party until the "primary contract" is completed. They ( eBay ) are acting as an " intermediary" so to speak.
No way am I in agreement to eBay holding funds in any shape or form... which is why I said " not to split hairs" but if you delve into the new " contract / terms and conditions" ebay are wanting sellers to " comply" it is all there in black and white, ebay are "covering their backs" to be able to implement their new terms.

though ebay has confirmed they cash in on the interest , it feels more like making new rules in their favour . how about the seller who's fees are held gets the interest paid to them as well ?

Whatever rules EBay may have don't override the laws that exist within the UK. Contract law in the UK is quite clear. The seller offers the goods. The buyer accepts the offer. That is the contract. As soon as the buyer pays that money it is part of the contract and belongs to the seller.

As a solicitor for TS what is TS's take on the proliferation of businesses trading on private eBay accounts?

This is an absolute disgusting and greedy way for ebay to gain more money I will not be listing anymore items It is too much like hard work waiting for OUR money to be released I have just had to contact them due to a item that has been delivered but not showing delivered on the tracking buyer confirmed she had recieved this item but no update. Sad to say I will be looking at other options away from ebay. Shame as I enjoyed my time selling here

I totally agree that it is an awful system. As an example, I sold an item last weekend, got confirmation today that it's been delivered but still have to wait another 2 days until my money is released - absolutely ridiculous!!!
I will also be looking at other much less beauracratic sites to sell my items. I've been with Ebay for approx 20years and this is the most ill thought out system they have introduced.
Ebay, sort it out before you lose the majority of your customers.

I’ve had a couple of sales this week and added tracking details. Items marked as delivered 2 days later and payment available to withdraw 2 days later. However, I have noticed 80% less sales since the changes for additional costs to buyers

I agree - I’ve been with eBay 14 years this has to be craziest change ever made I’ve already had to contact them on no of occasions as large letters that are sent don’t show as received on Royal Mail system as delivered for ages ! Feedback left and still no payments on many items . I think they are trying to follow vinted model but it’s not working

Hi , yes same problem for me, contacted Ebay 3 times by phone, messaged on Sat (15thFeb) as they had over £200 on hold, 2 items deliverd but tracking saying still in transit so holding those 2 payments although feedback left, no sure about using Evri as they take ages....think Ebay will have to re-think this idea, kind regards Derrick
