i HAVE USED EBAY FOR AROUND 30 YEARS around 20 years with my current details and previously in the early days around 10 years with different sign in name which incorporated a house name from which we moved!
Anyway as from now I have ceased to use Ebay as I do not agree with the NEW!! payment system
Nothing leaves my premises until it is paid for, thats a similar system that the retail trade uses isnt it??
One does not enter a shop and select what they wish to purchase, tell the shopkeaper I will send you the payment in a few days time and leave with the goods.
I have spoken to other eBay users I know all of whom are totally against this system and will not be selling!
EBAY you need to wake up quickly and sort out this matter!

i gave them a ring to see what was wrong , they said it will clear once i have shipped them out with tracking . though as far as i understood i assume for lower value items where i would use a 2 nd class option it might take longer . i'm not sure what the benefit is of a business account than as if i was selling it private and shipped it out with tracking i would still get the money in 2 days but without the selling fee

The benefit of a business account to a seller is that if you are buying goods to sell (trading), you are doing so legally. It would be wrong to upgrade to a business account just to be paid quicker when not actually running a business.

when did you upgrade to a business?

Was it around 20th last month or last week/

has lost the plot!...I don't send every item tracked, Now the payments is on hold till 20th february how will I know if the buyer recieved the item? unless they leave feedback or let ebay know the item arrived safe.
Post 687 on the "Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation" thread
So again the 20th February wonder if there is some kind of connection or just coincidence

yesterday , i will start packing up what was sold today soon i'll keep an eye open on what happens with the funds

Please don't quote me but i believe your before upgrade orders are treated differently then your business ones.
Any sales from now will be funds available once a cleared payment received by ebay.
This is because your old orders were sold on a private account now they are on a business account from now on should be treated differently.
There could be a slight waiting time to get your full business benefits on this but who the heck knows with all the changes coming thick and fast.

Something's definitely changed in eBay regarding checkout and payment
Just won an auction for something and went to pay... I selected PayPal as my payment option... but when I went and clicked on "Pay with PayPal" - I WASN'T ASKED OR GIVEN THE OPTION TO LOG INTO PAYPAL AND SELECT WHICH FUNDING SOURCE I WANT TO USE LIKE "PAYPAL CREDIT", "PAYPAL PAY IN 3" OR MY CARD/BANK ACCOUNT - EBAY JUST SWIPED PAYPAL DIRECTLY TO MY BANK !!! - GIVING ME NO OPTION TO SAY NO ! - I WANT TO PAY BY THIS WAY IN PAYPAL (I.E PAYPAL CREDIT)... SO NOW AFTER GETTING STUNG LIKE THIS... I WON'T BE BUYING MUCH ON EBAY FROM NOW ON.

Have you asked paypal why that happened ? Sorry but i don't see it as an Ebay issue but something on paypal.
Don't shoot the messenger but shoot the guy that sent it.

No point, as this was NOT PAYPAL'S FAULT.
Normally when I buy something on eBay and make payment, I select Pay by PayPal and have to log into PayPal to complete my payment, This gives me MORE OPTIONS AND CONTROL of what funding source I want to use to pay. Now today I won an auction, went as normal (I thought) to pay by PayPal, only it didn't give me the option to log into PayPal and choose my funding source, eBay just said "Thank you for shopping on eBay" and gave me a payment reference. That's it.
Now this is unacceptable and could have been disastrous had this been a £200 item instead of a £9 item.

All ebay do is send paypal a request for payment once sorted paypal send you back to ebay,
So paypal have not asked for your login detail, so again i would ask paypal why?

Did you by any chance previously purchase something whereby it stated in small print that by accepting eBay can use PayPal to fund future purchases? ( words not verbatim)
I had it on something way back when I made an offer - but it meant that I was giving my permission to eBay to authorise all future purchases etc... so I hit back browser... I do not want any third party "arranging" payments on my behalf. @bittyboy101

EBAY DID NOT DIRECT ME TO PAYPAL LIKE THEY NORMALLY DO TO ALLOW ME TO LOG INTO MY PAYPAL ACCOUNT AND CHOOSE THE PAYMENT OPTION I WANT TO USE - EBAY NOW CUT OUT THIS STAGE OF REDIRECTING ME TO THE PAYPAL WEBSITE FOR ME TO BE ABLE TO LOG IN THERE AND CHOOSE HOW I WANT TO PAY.
SO THIS IS 100% EBAY'S FAULT BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOW CHANGED SOMETHING - TODAY THE WHOLE EBAY CHECKOUT HAS A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT APPEARANCE AND LAYOUT.

while i was registered as a private seller i do still declare my income to the tax office , so i still have a hard time to see that paying the selling fee now as a business is going to benefit me much
05-02-2025 3:26 PM
i hope to see some benefit from it , i posted out items i sold today with the tracking and the order is now marked with - funds will be available when delivered .
as someone else mentioned , some people depend on the money to be available as they need it to pay for the postage . i operate as a self employed business and dont have a vast amount of funds i can have floating trough the postal system . i depend on the money thats being paid for postage to be available for me to buy the label with ...

Hi Violet 🙂
No I never did this, I'm always very careful and have always used PayPal whenever I don't want a direct charge to my bank account as I have other payment options in PayPal like if I wanted a £150 item I could choose "Pay in 3" which is basically paying the £150 in 3 smaller installments of £50 once a month for 3 months until fully paid. PayPal still pay the seller that £150 upfront so the seller still gets all their money and the item paid for in full. This just gives me more leeway to be able to purchase something that I couldn't afford to pay for all in one go and gives me the chance to buy it whilst I can ! as well as it give eBay and the seller the business... but if they are now going to take this away then I really can't afford to buy on eBay anymore...

@bittyboy101 I am unsure as to why this has happened - have you contacted eBay CS to ask them? It usually does come up with choices such as bank, paypal or card and then you need to confirm... Is the purchase definitely in your purchases? I wonder if it is another " glitch?" A small blessing it was not a huge amount as it could be catastrophic if wrong payment provider used... Let us know if you find out why it happened, personally I have stopped buying here so sorry unable to check to see if it does the same?
Off topic .... Many upset buyers/sellers here today regarding the app failure. It is unbelievable what is happening.

I'll try and contact eBay's CS to complain about this but I doubt they will be able to do anything... this is another side effect change that is now set in stone and the end of me being able to purchase expensive stuff from eBay anymore *gutted* 😞

Trading legally on a business account has absolutely nothing to do with HMRC and the taxes they administer.
It's consumer and misrepresentation laws that you now abide by, but didn't before.

Hi, totally agree with your comments, spoke to Ebay tonight and vented the concerns over this new system, hope they take notice as you say people will stop selling and use other formats like Vinted, l have sent off parcels today (Sat) so have to wait until maybe Wednesday at least for payout that if Royal Mail tracking updates ok , in the mean time my money sits in Ebays bank account earning them interest along with much more, think we will watch to see if they change back to old way.
Kind regards Derrick
