New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

I dont know if any private seller have noticed this. {Bottom in box}

But if i have read this right. You sell something, and when the buyer confirms they have recived the item, which would by feedback i presume, You then get paid two days after they confirm delivery.

eBay does not seem to have taken into account that a lot of sellers never leave feedback, even when reminded. So thats bad news for sellers, i guess you dont get paid.

On the plus side for eBay. They have got the buyers money. So if they dont have to pay you because the buyer wont leave feedback. Profits going up.

I also note this only applies to private sellers in the UK.

Now, to give your buyers even more confidence when shopping, UK-based private sellers will be paid after item delivery, from 4 Feb. Your funds will be available in your eBay balance two days after delivery confirmation.*** We know it's important to get your money fast, so we recommend using a tracked delivery service either through Simple Delivery, or arranging for local collection.

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

14 DAYS !!!! What on earth are Ebay playing at? This "new policy" is out of order. What was wrong with the "old policy"? It wasn't broke so why "fix" it? I am desperately trying to crawl out of the pit of debt that I've created for myself. How can I climb out of debt now? I've sold everything that I considered valuable or at least put it on sale. I have a much depleted collection now and very sorry I came to Ebay all those 20 years ago. Big mistake it has been. When I want to buy the prices are all sky high because now thanks to Ebay everyone believes the asking price to be the actual value. It ain't so, I have found. Nobody is buying from me except two this week. And so many items for sale that will sit there until the whole internet collapses under its own weight. Ebay can sit there raking the money in. But they have stopped sharing it out almost completely. Look, if I sell my own things, why can't I have the money? I am furious at this ridiculous change of policy. Whose idea was it?

If I went to my local supermarket, filled the trolley, then when I get to the checkout said "I'll pay for all this in two weeks if when I get it all home I'm satisfied." If, that is. Wouldn't they call in the police? Isn't this "new policy" actually illegal?

I read in an Ebay announcement that payment would be released two days after positive feedback when item sent untracked.

This only applies to low value items,  that is,  items £10 and under,  see here:

We’ve also heard your feedback and understand that shipping costs are particularly top of mind for low price items. When you’re selling a single item for £10 or less, and it’s sent untracked, funds will now be available 24 hours after you receive positive buyer feedbackThis will be live by the end of February.

I feel for you bud. All that extra money. The odd £20 here and there was helping me. Basically ebay don't want a bunch of private sellers who sell odds and ends. They want people who make big bucks.

Its not illegal. Its managed payments, many other platforms have been doing it for years and ebay have always had payment holds for new/infrequent sellers. The new policy is that ebay holds everyone’s money until two days after confirmed delivery - the buyer pays at checkout like they always have done. Its not the same as walking out of tesco without paying and isn’t the buyer’s fault.

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

I always left feedback in the past, but since everything now about the feedback is not open to genuine negative feedback, I just don't bother giving any feedback now.  I can't see the point in the feedback system anymore.

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

Of course, 2nd class royal mail is not a tracked service, but you do get a unique reference number generated when you print your own label and get it scanned. Has anybody verified that it is sufficient to enter the 2nd class postage reference number as the tracking information? If I enter this into the 'tracking' field for my sale, will that avoid the 2 week delay in getting paid (even if the buyer does not leave feedback). Has anyone tried it and succeeded? If that doesn't work then I will have to offer a premium tracked postal service.

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

It’s disgusting this new rule. It’s all to earn eBay more money and leave the sellers hanging on. I’ve been selling on here since 2009 and have 100% feedback so I should be seen as a trusted seller and be paid out straight away like other selling sites do but I called eBay yesterday and asked if they plan to introduce a system like that as we simply can’t wait that long to be paid out but they said no. I said it’s going backwards not forwards plus what’s stopping people buying your items to wear then send back. Ebay as always been about the buyers rather than protecting the sellers but this is ridiculous it’s going to cause no end of problems. I simply can’t afford to wait that long for my money so I’m going to have to look into selling on other sites. Your not telling me the way they have been doing it for years isn’t working. This new rule of holding everyone’s money is simply greedy.

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

eBay probably knows that they will loose sellers to start with, but also, probably thinks that they will come back and accept the new pay-out system as the new normal.

Oh Okay. Oh Wait, NO

I fear you might be right about that!

My sales on Ebay have plummeted anyway, so it's time to find another
outlet.

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

if you put the tracking number in ,it will show item delivered when royal mail scan the QR code on delivery and then your payment will be released 2 days after .But if there is no tracking number ebay make you wait 3 more weeks until they release your funds unless the buyer leaves feedback to say they have had the item .I have started adding tracked 24 or 48 to my parcels ,it costs 20p more then standard delivery ,but the post person is more likely to scan the code on tracked 24 or 48 than a standard delivery .

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

I went to google and had a look at ebay history over the last decade and it doesn't make for good reading .My sales have been rubbish since xmas  and I thought I was getting on top of my debt but now this new payout rule has opened up my hole again .

Re: New Rules for uk sellers 4th Feb

It certainly wouldn’t add only 20p to my postage…most of my packages go via 2nd class large letter at £1.55. To send tracked 48, would cost £2.70. So that’s another £1.15 to add to the postage.
