New Payment Rules

As an occasional seller only, since it isn't possible to organise collection of sold items when buying e bay labels I usually buy labels direct from Royal Mail ( I live 10 miles from the nearest PO and only visit maybe once every few weeks so collection is necessary.)

I normally choose RM48 and manually enter the tracking number in the sold section of my account.

Reading the new payment rules, seems when you get paid will depend on the tracking showing as delivered.

While I dont understand the reasoning behind this new way of doing things, additionally everything I have read about it seems to indicate the need to use an e bay label to ensure tracking works and that payment is made accordingly, placing me in a tricky situation.

I might have got this wrong, but as I am unable to post this way for the reason mentioned, am a little concerned that there may be significant delays in being paid if using a label purchased direct from RM.

If that is the case I will probably not sell here again.

I can think of no other company that doesn't require immediate payment, made to the seller and where it takes no longer than any bank would to process. The buyer is still having to pay up at point of sale and just wants their stuff to turn up, the seller simply require payment as fast as possible....so what on earth is all this about ?

Re: New Payment Rules

If you want to rely on buyers leaving feedback go ahead but personally I will only ever use a tracked service now, preferably RM given Evri's incompetence in all regards (at least in my region).  I have found that many many people either dont bother leaving feedback atall or only do so after many weeks.  Using that to confirm delivery and then payment is not sensible within these new and very stupid rules.  Presumably this change is to hold on to seller's money longer and earn interest on it, thereby regaining a little of the lost revenue from making listing free now.

Best to always send tracked.

Re: New Payment Rules

Thanks for your reply.

im talking about an updated rule to the new rules  that EBay has put in place. Not how I choose to post items.

I’m only pointing out how it’s one rule for a situation and a different rule for another when in fact both situations are the same.

I’m trying to reach someone in eBay about this unfairness and when I clicked onto the speak to the community team it took me here I’m not talking about how I post items. I’m trying to find out why talk to the eBay community team which is open for 1 hour between 2-3pm on a Wednesday

the area to Start the conversation is greyed out

Re: New Payment Rules

The point is, just always ship using tracking.  Buyers will just have to accept that it might cost a little more to get items under £10 to them going forward.  Otherwise dont do that but accept it may take an age to get paid.  I wont be selling anything for less than £10...you do whatever you want. I have to be honest I dont quite understand what the issue is for you other than the entire rules change being 'unfair' to begin with.  Why not call up and ask someone about whatever is bothering you.....

Re: New Payment Rules

Best taking a look at the new update to the recent update of payout rules. I’m not posting this purely on behalf of myself and it’s not a personal post I’m making. Lots of people sell items under £10 if they want to have a large clearout to make space.  This isn’t a post about me and it’s not personal it’s about a fact

Re: New Payment Rules

If you regularly sell items under £10, it’s usually because they are worth less than £10 and literally will only sell if priced below £10. Buyers just won’t buy at all if  they think the item is overpriced. Large letter postage costs a lot more tracked…a substantial amount out of the return or to add on to the item which clearly doesn’t need tracking or £100 compensation.
It’s not fair to say just suck it up!

Many private sellers are only selling their items because they need every penny. It’s not fine to say I’m alright Jack.

Re: New Payment Rules

Then those sellers either have to hope for early feedback or wait 14 days.

Re: New Payment Rules

Who is saying I'm allright jack ?

Fact of the matter is, the rues have changed and using a tracked service is the only way you can ensure you will be paid in a (kind of) timely manner.  That is the point I am making.  It sucks yes, but have a word with Ebay perhaps.

It is what it is, you can play by the rules or dont use ebay atall...... and you can always choose to list low value items a little lower to in part at least, cover the shipping cost for your buyer.

Saying something isn't fair will alter not a thing I'm afraid.

Re: New Payment Rules

I’m afraid for many people, it’s impossible or pointless lowering an already rock bottom price! Seriously, it’s just not worth researching, photographing, listing, describing, packaging, organising delivery etc.

You probably don’t actually mean to sound smug but the kind of comments, saying it is what it is etc come across that way.

Believe me, thousands of us have officially complained, signed petitions, left Trustpilot reviews, contacted customer services to absolutely no avail.
This is a sellers forum, an opportunity to voice our concerns and issues. We don’t expect any other members to solve our problems but at least we can vent our frustrations as there is literally zero concern from eBay.
We all know that in order to compete, we would have to lower prices etc…unfortunately that is self defeating for many. May as well give the items away on Freegle/Freecycle/Charity shops.

Many of us older retired people try to supplement pensions by selling collections etc but it’s a lot of work if you’re getting only a few pence in return, disdain from eBay and no support.
PS. just had a look at Trustpilot before and couldn’t believe the rating has dropped to 1 star.

Re: New Payment Rules

Hi Pepso, the issue is a conflict in eBay’s new uodate  to their new payout rules

-untracked with feedback gets a quicker payout

-Tracked with non confirmation of delivery with feedback - will have a slower payout  14 days.

The tracked with no confirmation  arises either because the delivery person’s scanner has stopped working or they couldn’t be bothered scanning/running late.

Anyway what I’m trying to say it’s the same situation both haven’t tracked, both have feedback  yet one gets paid out quicker than the other.

That doesn’t sit right at all. It doesn’t make sense.

All I’m saying is  Fair is Fair and both situations should be treated equally.

Personally I’ve sent fully tracked items and on a rare occasion the item hasn’t tracked properly as the  the tracking has became stuck.

So proper tracking doesn’t always work but if a buyer leaves feedback then delivery is confirmed (tracked or untracked - no difference at all) - her eBay has set 2 different rules for the same situation.

Hollyh321 is entirely correct with regards to her comment.

Re: New Payment Rules

You might not have noticed but I actually started this thread, when I heard about the rules changing quite some time ago !.

I've been through all the trying to get in touch with ebay staff, discussing the matter with other sellers here, etc etc and as mentioned have decided to just leave it all alone, try to sell elsewhere in preference but where I feel it worthwhile to do so here may do, but will ONLY ever send tracked....because that's the only way you can be sure you will be paid in a timely manner.

I say it is what it is because that is the situation and it isn't going to change any time soon I dont think.

I dont mind if you think that smug because I am not atall that person and in fact am also retired and living on a small fixed income so I too have relied on making a few sales on Ebay, just like many others.

I apologise if I came over like that however.

It's just all very boring now and one positive thing, it has made me super cautious when buying anything nowadays because I dont want to find myself with a thing I need to sell on, given how things are here now.

Re: New Payment Rules

I sold a watch on here on Saturday, the buyer lived near me, so I went and delivered it personally and also refunded part of the postage, eBay told me this morning because there is no tracking on the item my payment ios being held until 27th April, I am being penalised for being helpful. If I had posted it the buyer would not have got their watch until tomorrow. I find the whole scenario a joke, and have complained bitterly to eBay, but I know it won't get me anywhere. I too an considering not selling on here ever again. The last straw. Would be interested in any feedback.

Re: New Payment Rules

When you deviate from the eBay norm thats when problems can occur, you should have cancelled the original listing and relisted with collection, the buyer would have got a collection code which when given to you would have released payment.

Without a collection code or trackng proving delivery you have to wait 14 days for payment.

Re: New Payment Rules

There is also another situation that Ebay have not considered.

I`m a private seller sell a few things every month.

My buyer asked me to post the item the day auction ended as they wanted it urgently. Payment received in processing as usual. Go to Parcelforce depot get there before it closes. Checked tracking for next day PF attempted delivery no one available (this is a business address too) so as standard they took it to the PO. Buyer informed its at local PO. I msg'd buyer with a friendly courtesy saying I can see for some reason no one was available to take parcel and its at your local PO. Buyer has not messaged me at all. Been 2 days. So its confirmed delivery at PO but I still cant have payment. Cant contact buyer. So if he doesnt pick it up I have to hope it gets returned to me. So no payment. This is no fault of mine entirely but I have to suffer the consequences and dont know how I am going to get payment. More likely the item will hopefully come back. Under old system I would have been paid straight away.

Its frustrating things like this that put you off Ebay and this new payment system must have put off sellers I am trying to find other ways to sell 2nd stuff so give it a couple of years and Ebay will be complaining there members are dwindling.

Can you imagine sellers on Amazon not getting payment till the item is delivered. They would quickly lose sellers.
