Extortion Practices. Want to close your account ? Ebay wont let you, unless you provide your NI.

I wish to close my eBay account and be paid monies that are due in my eBay balance.

eBay wont allow this, they are trying to extort information from me,  which I am not prepared to give.

They are withholding funds on past transactions that I have legally fulfilled. I have supplied and shipped items to buyers in good faith and not been paid for it.

I do not wish to sell on this platform anymore, as I don't agree with the Digital Sale legislation so selling is not for me.

I understand if i want to continue selling I would need to provide this information but I do not.

So I wish to terminate my account and be paid for what is due.

Underhand tactics by a company to extort information from you.  I will not comply.

I'm glad to see you sorted this. If your account has restrictions or doesn't meet minimum standards, then eBay request you use Contact Us for help closing it.

I have requested to close my account over 10 times.

Each time they refuse because I have funds available in the account, which they deny me to withdrawl.

Those funds are from transactions I have completed , goods I have sent from out of my own pocket

I have rang, spoken and emailed and had chats and the agents say they dont have permission to release moneys.

The only option I have been given is to allow them to keep my money £104 and then they would be prepared to close my account. I have it all in the transcripts.

It just fraud. simple.. fraudulent tactics to try to bully me to provide information, they are NOT entitled to.

They are entitled to request that information though.  Under the regulations they are legally required to request and verify a seller's NI number once that seller reachs either of the reporting thresholds.  They are also required to put measures in place to encourage compliance and to provide evidence of the steps taken otherwise they could end up being fined. 

Withholding payment is one of the methods suggested in the OECD Model Rules to encourage compliance. 

Ebay will probably continue to withhold payment until the end of year, i.e. when the requested information is no longer required in relation to the current year's sales, or they may release it after 180 days.

But there's a big difference in what your saying.

They can request all they want, and yes they may be legally required to ask... but I'm not legally required to provide. hence why I wish to close my account. I do not wish to contract with the changes which is my entitlement.

in my opinion the measures they have put in place are fraudulent. I fulfilled my legal obligations to buyers of goods I provided and I am now out of pocket for both the goods and the shipping. Ebay have taken there cut and my cut of the sale and that's why its fraudulent.

OECD Model Rules are just guidance of bullying tactics to encourage compliance because the primary goal of the models is to ensure large multinational companies like Ebay pay minimum tax.  They are just framework large national companies are working to and are not legally binding.

OECD is an interesting piece of framework to read so i do recommend doing so if you have time, so thanks for that link; Especially Section IV; Administration and enforcement.

I understand why they are using the balance owed to me as hostage to prevent me from closing my account. 

I made it clear to the agents and senior staff , I wont be bullied and I wont comply.

Just to update ... i finally received my monies that were being held in a bid to extort information from me.

No information was provided. Wait it out.!

Monies received and shortly I can now close my account on this hideous platform.
