I’m going round and round in circles.
in January I agreed to buy an item.
Ebay took the £350 from my credit card.
the buyer then wanted me to use PayPal friends and family to pay for the item and agreed shipping costs.
I wasn’t happy about this and cancelled the purchase and the buyer tells me that they have also agreed to the cancellation.
in the ‘Help’ section I can find no way of asking for a refund.
when eBay works it’s amazing , but when you need help , you need a lot of patience and time …..
many hrlp or suggestions gratefully received

The seller has to issue a cancellation at their end. If they don't do that wait for the estimated delivery date on the listing to pass then select "Report an item you didn't receive" on here:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/buying/returns-items-not-received-refunds-buyers/get-help-item-hasnt-arr...
and escalate it 3 complete working days later to get a full refund.
If the cancellastion has already gone through the refund may take a while to return to your card. Can be up to 30 days but usually quicker. You should have received email notification though.

You may have asked for help too late as if the seller didn't cancel in January you can't now open a claim for item not received and may have to do a credit card chargeback.

Ring your credit card company and they may be able to reclaim the money from the seller's bank account. That's a chargeback.

Thank you
Trouble is EBay is holding the money and both the seller and myself have agreed and told EBay that the sale has been cancelled.
I’ll keep going round in circles for a bit longer

That doesn't sound right. Even if ebay is holding the seller's funds for some reason the refund would still go through. Your seller has already proved untrustworthy, do you believe them now?
