Anyone being hit with refunds from Cleared funds rather than Pending when buyer fails to collect

Buyers makes offer and pays for an item listed as collection only.  Despite numerous messages to arrange collection there is just radio silence.  I therefore cancelled the order to relist.  The refund has been made from my ebay funds, when the payment was still being held in pending.  It now still shows as pending, awaiting collection.  It will never be collected, so will I ever get the funds?  Have I just lost the money twice.  Called an assistant who was helpful but could only say he 'thought' the funds would be released as refund was given, but it would take 14 days!  Anyone else had this double whammy with refunds from their balance, when ebay are holding the payment in pending?  Looks like a glitch in the new payments logic.

Yes - seems a standard process - they've not linked refunds or payments to specific orders so in effect you are giving them more money to look after for the 14 days. (definitely not an ethical process !)

Suggest the following for the future which helps a little  :- withdraw all available funds before making any refund / postage payment.  When the refund or payment goes through then it forces the Ebay balance negative (provided there are pending funds).

However the next payment from your pending funds will be offset against the negative balance - rather than the specific order .

If you only get a few orders then this is worth doing - if you get daily payouts from pending funds then it really depends on values  whether it's worth the effort - but  at least they won't be using your available funds.

Oh yes i have complained and they don't care. £30 refunds taken from my balance instead of pending because i'm honest, ( something we will no longer be encouraged to be), and i have paid back overpaid postage when people have bought without asking for an invoice to combine (because they trust me) funny isn't it

If you go to your payments & select pending payments then you should be able to see the order.  Click on that & there's normally a date when the funds should be in your account (a net amount should show).  Not sure what date you'll see with a cancelled order after payment however !

If you look at the order details elsewhere then this should show it's been refunded - but as there seems to be no link between payments & specific orders then you would expect to get what's on the pending payment file on that specific date.

While we can actually do duplicate postage refunds now - once simple delivery is imposed on everything then it doesn't look possible as the buyer pays for postage direct.

I've got one regular buyer that can buy 3 items in one day several hours apart & I refund & combine the postage & send the items together.  For simple delivery I would end up with three separate labels that I would have to send out separately ! (Still hoping that "eligible" items won't include everything for simple delivery - but busy listing elsewhere just in case).

Yes! I sold a perfume for £80, buyer paid in full but later asked to cancel. I cancelled the transaction and the refund was taken from my cleared funds (at about £100) and not the pending funds (at about £400, of which £80 was the buyers payment) - I couldn’t believe it, out of pocket and penalised for helping a buyer.  3 Days later I received a payment for £80 from the pending funds, what the heck?

When it comes to managing my ebay account, bank account and payment cards, this is just one of many horrible frustrating moments this week. I genuinely have no idea where my money is, what value it's at, when I will be paid and where my fees are being charged to. Don't patronise me, I've tried, for hours to track it. All I know is that I didn’t have these problems before the 4th Feb and I do now. These PAYMENT CHANGES are an absolute disgrace.

BTW, keeping your cleared funds at zero won’t work either, charges are taken from your payment account (bank) not the pending funds, I have tried everything.

The good news is that this situation will not last much longer. I am selling my listed items and then I am not going to list anything further until this payment situation is improved. It used to be fun, but selling privately on ebay is genuinely an unpleasant experience that I no longer look forward to. (and no I don't WANT a business account, thanks).

I just make sure that funds are withdrawn as soon as they have cleared now.

If there is no money in available or pending funds ,  then the refund is taken from the nominated bank account you have for this purpose, when signing up for eBay's Managed Payments

This has just happened to me, had to refund a buyer and they've taken the refund from my cleared balance. Along with all the other inconveniences that have come with these changes I'm now done selling on ebay. They've tried to mimic another well known marketplace website and have completely ruined their own selling model in the process, even the other site just takes it from your pending balance, not your cleared or from your bank account.

I find that there is some confusion in the refund process ,I iniated a refund from my payments balance and ebay then told me that the buyer had been refunded ,then a few days later there was a DD on my bank account for ebay ,so I contacted customer services who told me that there was a refund owing and so I felt ebay had taken  money from me twice . I had money in my ebay balance so when I clicked refund the money dissapeared and then they took money from my bank account too so  I refunded twice .

Do yourself a big favour and DON'T sell via eBay anymore... This new payment system is LUDICROUS and UNFAIR.

The site is now not what it used to be and they are so pig-headed to admit they GOT IT WRONG ! and change it back to how it was ORIGINALLY  where selling and getting paid on eBay was QUICK & EASY.
