A payment has been taken from my bank but no purchase for that amount

A payment has been taken from my bank with an Ebay reference. But there is no purchase for the amount. I cannot see any way to contact EBay for an explanation

Could be various legit reasons (really hope so), but it's a good idea anyway to ask eBay customer services. If you can't talk to them straightaway, don't wait but urgently contact your card provider in case it's not eBay taking money but that your card's been hacked and you're paying for someone else's purchase. If you suspect that's happened it can escalate quickly into £Ks. Spoken from experience.

If it so happens that your card has been hacked, ensure your card provider not only puts a stop on the card but issues you a new one with a totally different number not just a different expiry date.

Click  on the left where it says chat with our automated assistant

On the robotic screen just ignore the questions and type agent as many times as it takes to get the message “chat to an agent “ approx 1 minute or some such words

sometimes you just have to click anythng if it doesn’t register , but it will eventually

You really need to speak to somebody from eBay Customer Services to get this matter sorted out as quickly as possible.  Although you could use the automated assistant to contact eBay, the best option would be to click on the following link https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/eua?id=5275&mkevt=1&mkpid so that you can speak to a real human, rather than trying to converse in typed messages with an AI 'bot.  The lines are open from 8:00am and 10:00pm from Monday to Friday and from 9:00am and 6:00pm on Saturday and Sunday.  Your best bet would be to contact eBay at around 8:00am when the lines first open (or 9:00am if calling during the weekend) as that way you've got a far better chance of getting through to one of the more knowledgeable eBay representatives based in Dublin, whereas if you were to leave it until later in the day to contact eBay Customer Services then you may just end up speaking to an eBay representative working out of eBay's Philippines-based call centre.

If you click on the link provided in this reply a new page will load up.  Scroll right down to the bottom of the page, click on the blue button that says "Have Us Call You" and you should receive a phone call from an eBay representative shortly afterwards.  Explain to the eBay representative what you mentioned in your post at the start of this thread, emphasising that you cannot see anything on your purchase history that would relate to the amount taken, and that you are concerned that your account may have been hacked.  The eBay representative ought to discuss the matter with you and help you to get to the bottom of it.  If it's just something as simple as a purchase that you made as a guest, rather than actually logging in and making the purchase, then that would explain it and you can rest easy; however, if there's something more worrying going on then the eBay representative should to be able to explain how best to resove the problem.
