Finding the automated assistant useless I am hoping someone might help. I'm a private seller for 22 years. Now I've been asked for my NI number and now see I'm classified as a market place seller. Does anyone know of how to contact ebay and get this rectified as there is no way I'm paying tax on stuff I bought years ago and have already paid tax on it at purchase. Thanks in advance.

We are all 'marketplace sellers' if we sell on Ebay. Ebay is the marketplace.
Ebay is asking all sellers for their NI Numbers when they reach a threshold of 30 items sold this year, or items to a value of about £1740.
They have to pass this information to HMRC. They have been told to collect this information by the government.
If you are selling your own unwanted items you should not have a tax liability.

Do not expect ebay to explain these continuous changes, they know what is best for buyers and sellers! Or do they?
