As ebay  has listed a vat charge on an item i purchased,why do they not display their vat registration number

If you buy an item from non UK seller, ebay collect VAT on behalf of HMRC, 

So it is not ebay charging it.

eBay aren't charging you VAT.

Import VAT is set by our very own HMRC, it's just collected by eBay and then passed on to them.
