Ebay tells you when dispatched, why would sellers need to text you, the correct method of contact is ebay messages.

It isn't sellers who text buyers about deliveries, it's usually the carrier that's delivering them.
Why would you want to prevent text messages about deliveries? Deliveries recorded as attempted because no-one was aat home and parcels left on the doorstep and stolen are two of the biggest risks for buyers on eBay. Both can result in the buyer losing their item and their money, with no protection from eBay.
Texting buyers with info about expected delivery times can be a huge help in avoiding this.

I get lots of deliveries and I do not want text messages evert time someone is thinking of delivering something - the ebay messaging service is quite adequate
ebay needs to stop this or I will need to take my number dwn - but how will that affect two step verification

As explained, it's the delivery companies sending you those messages, nothing to do with eBay, or the seller, so they have no say in those messages sent.
Go to the carriers website, see if there's an ' unsubscribe ' to their messages.
